Ryder Cup 2025: Meet Team Europe’s 12 Golfers at Bethpage Black

Posted on September 25, 2025September 25, 2025 by Santiago Leon

The 2025 Ryder Cup heads to Bethpage Black in New York, where Team Europe will try to defend their crown after a memorable win in Rome two years ago. Led by Masters champion Rory McIlroy and world-class stars like Jon Rahm and Viktor Hovland, the Europeans bring a mix of legends, steady performers, and fresh faces looking to make their mark.

Here’s a closer look at the 12 golfers representing Team Europe at the Ryder Cup 2025.

Rory McIlroy (World No. 2)

  • Ryder Cup record: 16-13-4
  • Hometown: Holywood, County Down, Northern Ireland
  • College: n/a

Fresh off completing the career Grand Slam at Augusta, McIlroy leads Europe with momentum and experience. He’ll be counted on to anchor the lineup in hostile territory.

Tommy Fleetwood (World No. 7)

  • Ryder Cup record: 7-3-2
  • Hometown: Southport, England
  • College: n/a

Fleetwood finally captured his first PGA Tour win at the Tour Championship, complementing a year of consistent top-10 finishes. He’s one of Europe’s most reliable match-play performers.

Robert MacIntyre (World No. 9)

  • Ryder Cup record: 2-0-1
  • Hometown: Oban, Scotland
  • College: McNeese State

The Scottish lefty shined at the majors this season with a runner-up at the U.S. Open and top-10 at The Open. He remains undefeated in Ryder Cup play.

Viktor Hovland (World No. 12)

  • Ryder Cup record: 3-4-3
  • Hometown: Oslo, Norway
  • College: Oklahoma State

Hovland contributed heavily in Rome and added another PGA Tour title this season. His consistency under pressure makes him a key weapon for Europe.

Justin Rose (World No. 14)

  • Ryder Cup record: 14-9-3
  • Hometown: Hook, England (born Johannesburg, South Africa)
  • College: n/a

At age 45, Rose continues to shine. He pushed Rory at the Masters playoff and captured a victory at the FedEx St. Jude. A veteran presence, he’s appearing in his seventh Ryder Cup.

Sepp Straka (World No. 15)

  • Ryder Cup record: 1-2-0
  • Hometown: Vienna, Austria
  • College: Georgia

With two wins and six top-10s this season, Straka had the best year of his career. His steady ball striking could be crucial in match play.

Ludvig Åberg (World No. 16)

  • Ryder Cup record: 2-2-0
  • Hometown: Eslöv, Sweden
  • College: Texas Tech

The 24-year-old Swede added his second Ryder Cup appearance after a breakout season with one win and multiple top-10 finishes. A rising star in European golf.

Shane Lowry (World No. 24)

  • Ryder Cup record: 2-3-1
  • Hometown: Clara, Ireland
  • College: University College Dublin

Lowry has been a steady presence for Europe, with two runner-ups this season. Known for his grit and short game, he’s a fan favorite.

Tyrrell Hatton (World No. 25)

  • Ryder Cup record: 5-4-2
  • Hometown: High Wycombe, England
  • College: n/a

One of two LIV golfers on Team Europe, Hatton secured his place with a DP World Tour win and solid major results. His fiery personality brings energy to the team.

Matt Fitzpatrick (World No. 29)

  • Ryder Cup record: 1-7-0
  • Hometown: Sheffield, England
  • College: Northwestern

Fitzpatrick has struggled historically in the Ryder Cup but found form late in the season with five top-10 finishes. He’ll look to turn his Cup record around.

Rasmus Højgaard (World No. 58)

  • Ryder Cup record: Rookie
  • Hometown: Billund, Denmark
  • College: n/a

Replacing his twin brother Nicolai from Rome, Rasmus makes his Ryder Cup debut. The 23-year-old is known for his raw power and fearless play.

Jon Rahm (World No. 73)

  • Ryder Cup record: 6-3-3
  • Hometown: Barrika, Spain
  • College: Arizona State

Though now on LIV Golf, Rahm remains a top competitor. He was LIV’s individual champion and earned three top-15s at majors this year. Expect him to be Europe’s emotional leader.

Can Team Europe Win on U.S. Soil?

Europe’s lineup blends established legends like Rory McIlroy, Justin Rose, and Jon Rahm with rising stars such as Åberg, MacIntyre, and Højgaard. With their passionate chemistry and history of success, Team Europe will aim to do what few squads have accomplished: win the Ryder Cup on American soil.
