Canada’s Historic Role in the World Series — and the Revival of a Championship Bid in 2025

Posted on October 21, 2025October 21, 2025 by Santiago Leon

Canada has had the rare honor of hosting the World Series — Major League Baseball’s Fall Classic — on two occasions:

In 1992, the Toronto Blue Jays hosted Games 3–5 of the World Series at the then-SkyDome in Toronto, marking the first time ever that World Series games were played outside the U.S. In 1993, the Blue Jays again hosted Games 1, 2, and 6 at home when they won back-to-back titles.

Those remain the only times a Canadian city has hosted World Series games.

The 2025 Return to the Fall Classic — and Canada in the Spotlight

Fast-forward to 2025, and Canada is once again in the global baseball spotlight. The Toronto Blue Jays advanced to the 2025 World Series to face the Los Angeles Dodgers, marking their first appearance in the Fall Classic since 1993.

Here are the key highlights:

  • The Blue Jays clinched the American League pennant by defeating the Seattle Mariners 4–3 in the ALCS, including a dramatic Game 7 home win.
  • The Dodgers entered as defending champions, setting up a marquee World Series matchup: Dodgers vs. Blue Jays.
  • Game 1 of the 2025 World Series is scheduled for Friday, October 24 at Toronto’s home stadium, giving Canada hosting duties in this Fall Classic once again.

Why This Matters for Canada and Baseball

1. Reaffirming Canada’s place in MLB history.

Hosting World Series games is a prestigious milestone, and Toronto’s re-entry into the Fall Classic renews Canada’s visibility on baseball’s biggest stage. Historically, only two Canadian-hosted World Series (1992 & 1993) had occurred — so this is a meaningful resurgence.

2. A long overdue Toronto return.

For the Blue Jays, this is their third World Series appearance — and the first in more than three decades. The last time they reached the Fall Classic was 1993, when they were champions.

3. Sports tourism, national pride & economic impact.

Having games played in Toronto elevates fan excitement, national media coverage across Canada, and local economic opportunities (hotels, restaurants, souvenirs). It reinforces the idea that Canada can not only host but thrive when MLB’s climax occurs north of the border.

4. Storylines abound.

From the Blue Jays’ resurgence, to the star power of the Dodgers, and historic implications for Canada — there are compelling narratives that capture both longtime baseball fans and newer audiences.
