The Baltimore Orioles acquired right-hander Shane Baz from the Tampa Bay Rays for outfielder Slater de Brun, catcher Caden Bodine, right-hander Michael Forret, outfielder Austin Overn, and a 2026 draft pick in competitive balance round A, both clubs announced Friday.
The move came shortly after the Rays reportedly hatched a three-team trade to send All-Star second baseman Brandon Lowe, reliever Mason Montgomery, and outfielder Jake Mangum to the Pittsburgh Pirates in a deal that netted Tampa Bay outfield prospect Jacob Melton and right-hander Anderson Brito from the Houston Astros.
Baz posted a 4.87 ERA and 4.37 FIP with 9.5 K/9 over 166 1/3 innings while making 31 starts this past season. He’s projected to make around $2.8 million next year and is arbitration-eligible through 2028.
