What Is TGL? Inside Golf’s New High-Tech League Led by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy

Posted on March 24, 2026March 24, 2026 by Santiago Leon

The world of golf is evolving, and TGL (Tomorrow’s Golf League) is at the center of that transformation. Created by golf icons Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy in partnership with TMRW Sports, TGL is a revolutionary league designed to modernize the game through technology, team competition, and fast-paced entertainment.

Launched in 2025, TGL aims to complement traditional golf competitions like the PGA Tour while attracting a new generation of fans.

What Is TGL?

TGL, short for Tomorrow’s Golf League, is an indoor, team-based golf competition that blends real play with advanced simulator technology. Unlike traditional tournaments that take place over multiple days, TGL matches are condensed into a two-hour, primetime television format.

Matches are held at the custom-built SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, a state-of-the-art venue designed specifically for this innovative style of play.

How TGL Works

TGL introduces a completely new way to experience golf, combining physical skill with cutting-edge tech.

Team-Based Format

Instead of individual stroke play, TGL features teams of professional golfers competing head-to-head. This adds strategy, camaraderie, and a new layer of excitement rarely seen in traditional golf.

High-Tech Gameplay

Players hit long-distance shots into a massive simulator screen that replicates real golf courses. Once near the green, they transition to a real, rotating short-game complex, where putting and chipping take place on actual turf.

Faster Matches

Each match is designed to last around two hours, making it far more digestible for modern audiences compared to traditional four-day tournaments.

Shot Clock and Mic’d Players

To keep the action moving, TGL uses a shot clock, ensuring players take shots within a set time. Players are also mic’d up, giving fans insight into conversations, strategy, and competitive banter.

Where TGL Takes Place

All TGL matches are played at the SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. This purpose-built arena features:

  • A giant simulator screen for full shots
  • A dynamic green that changes shape and slope
  • Stadium seating for a live audience
  • Advanced lighting and broadcast capabilities

The controlled indoor environment ensures consistent conditions and a TV-friendly experience.

Key Features of TGL

TGL stands out from traditional golf formats in several important ways:

  • Primetime scheduling for maximum TV exposure
  • Team identities and branding to build fan loyalty
  • Interactive fan experience with music, lights, and energy
  • Technology-driven gameplay blending virtual and real elements
  • Short-form competition ideal for modern viewing habits

Why TGL Matters

TGL represents a major shift in how golf is presented and consumed. While the PGA Tour continues to showcase the sport’s traditional format, TGL offers a complementary product aimed at entertainment and accessibility.

By shortening match times and incorporating technology, TGL is positioned to:

  • Appeal to younger audiences
  • Increase global viewership
  • Create new commercial opportunities for the sport
  • Keep golf relevant in a fast-changing sports landscape

TGL vs Traditional Golf

The contrast between TGL and traditional golf is significant:

  • Traditional golf is individual-focused, while TGL is team-based
  • Standard tournaments span four days, whereas TGL matches last about two hours
  • Outdoor courses are replaced with a controlled indoor arena
  • Players in TGL are more interactive and mic’d up, enhancing fan engagement

The Future of TGL

As TGL continues to grow, it could reshape how golf is consumed worldwide. With backing from top players, innovative technology, and a focus on entertainment, the league is poised to become a major player in the sports media landscape.

For fans, TGL offers something entirely new: a faster, louder, and more engaging version of golf without losing the skill and precision that define the sport.
