Sayon Keita, a highly touted 6-foot-11 center who plays for FC Barcelona of the Spanish Liga ACB, has committed to play basketball for Michael Malone and North Carolina.
Keita, who grew up in Bamako, Mali, which is the largest city in West Africa, turned 18 years of age on March 8, but has already played two professional seasons.
A target of Hubert Davis’ UNC program, Keita took an official visit to Chapel Hill last summer. He was an early contact by the new Carolina staff. He has the same agent as Maxin Lague, a recent UNC transfer commit from Florida Atlantic.
