The Los Angeles Chargers reached a new three-year, $75.6 million deal with Derwin James on Tuesday afternoon, according to the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. At more than $25 million a season, will make James the highest-paid safety in the league for the second time in his career.
James was set to enter the final year of his current contract this fall, and would have been an unrestricted free agent next summer. James was earning an average of about $19.1 million per season, which made him the fourth-highest paid safety in the NFL.
