Cristiano Ronaldo’s sister has confirmed that he will retire from the national team after the World Cup.
After 232 appearances for Portugal’s senior national team (including today’s match against Croatia), the Funchal-born superstar is expected to retire from international football and will not play at UEFA Euro 2028 in two years. The news was confirmed ahead of the match by his sister, Kátia Aveiro.
“According to the information I have, he could say goodbye. Not today, but I believe this is his farewell. I mean the national team. According to a reliable source, this is his ‘last dance’—the World Cup,” she said on Sport TV before heading to the stadium in Toronto, where Portugal will be looking to secure a place in the Round of 16 against Luka Modrić’s Croatia. Spain is already waiting in the next round.
