Michael Lombardi, a top aide to coach Bill Belichick, resigned as the general manager of North Carolina’s football team.
Lombardi had been on paid leave in the wake of an internal investigation into a human resources complaint filed by a former UNC front office employee, ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported in late July.
The scope of the investigation has since widened and has included attorneys reaching out to UNC staffers, coaches and even coaches’ wives and girlfriends, sources told ESPN’s David Hale. Questions have been asked of witnesses about Lombardi’s role in hiring and firing decisions regarding female and minority staffers.
