The Minnesota Vikings are bringing back veteran safety Harrison Smith on a one-year, $12.25-million deal that can reach $16.25 million with incentives, sources told NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo and Ian Rapoport.
Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell and defensive coordinator Brian Flores pushed hard for Smith’s return, Garafolo adds. He plans to play when Minnesota kicks off its season against the Green Bay Packers on Sept. 13.
Smith reportedly contemplated returning to Minnesota throughout the offseason after suiting up in 15 games as the Vikings’ starting safety last campaign.
