The Houston Texans and quarterback C.J. Stroud have agreed to wait until after the season to work out a long-term extension, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter and NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Stroud and Houston made a run at a new deal before their Week 1 contest against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, but they ultimately couldn’t get anything done, Schefter and Rapoport add.
Houston picked up Stroud’s fifth-year option in April, locking him under contract through the 2027 campaign. The option guarantees Stroud $25.9 million next season if the two sides don’t agree on a new deal, according to Spotrac.
