Chicago Cubs star third baseman Alex Bregman sustained multiple facial fractures after being struck by a foul ball while standing in the on-deck circle during Sunday’s game, sources told Jeff Passan of ESPN.
Bregman reportedly won’t undergo surgery and hopes to return for the playoffs, which begin Sept. 29.
The 32-year-old’s left eye was so swollen Monday that the Cubs are still figuring out the next steps for his recovery, sources told Patrick Mooney of The Athletic.
