The cost-conscious Tampa Bay Rays are the champions of the American League East for the first time in five seasons despite operating with one of MLB’s lowest payrolls.
Tampa Bay clinched its first division title since 2021 on Tuesday after knocking off the New York Yankees 6-1 in the Bronx.
The milestone marks just the fifth time the Rays have won the AL East in their 29-year history. Tampa Bay is also the fourth different team in the last four seasons to win the division.
