Jamaal Williams is hoping to return to the NFL and has expressed interest in reuniting with the Detroit Lions, where he became a fan favorite from 2021-22 and scored a then-franchise-record 17 rushing touchdowns in 2022.
Williams recently contacted Lions coach Dan Campbell about a potential comeback. Campbell told him Detroit is currently comfortable with its running back situation but would keep Williams in mind if circumstances change. Williams also said he holds no hard feelings about leaving Detroit following their 2023 contract negotiations.
A reunion could become an option because Lions running back Isiah Pacheco is sidelined indefinitely following back surgery and reportedly may not return until December. However, Detroit has leaned heavily on Jahmyr Gibbs while giving Sione Vaki and Jacob Saylors opportunities behind him.
For now, the Lions do not appear to be pursuing Williams, but the door remains open if Detroit’s running back situation changes later in the season.
