Cleveland baseball is mourning the loss of one of its most dominant pitchers.
“Sudden” Sam McDowell, a six-time All-Star who spent the first 11 seasons of his 15-year Major League Baseball career with the Cleveland Indians, has died. He was 84.
The Cleveland Guardians confirmed McDowell’s death to FOX 8 on Tuesday.
“The Cleveland Guardians family is deeply saddened by the loss of one of the great pitchers in baseball history, Sam McDowell,” the team said in a statement. “Sam spent eleven of his fifteen seasons in a Cleveland uniform as one of the game’s most feared hurlers. A strikeout king.”
