The Tampa Bay Rays named right-hander Nick Martinez as their starter for Game 1 of the World Series on Friday.
“When Nick pitches, we win,” Rays manager Kevin Cash said Thursday, according to Michael Bier of Foul Territory. “Excited to hand Nick the ball Game 1 and we’ll go from there.”
Cash added that the team wanted to prioritize giving extra rest to Drew Rasmussen and Freddy Peralta, who were also Game 1 options.
