As Los Angeles prepares to host matches during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, many fans are asking the same question: Does SoFi Stadium have air conditioning?
The answer is no—SoFi Stadium is not a fully air-conditioned stadium. However, its innovative design helps create a comfortable environment even during warm Southern California weather.
Is SoFi Stadium Air Conditioned?
No. SoFi Stadium, the Los Angeles venue for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, does not use a traditional stadium-wide air conditioning system like some enclosed NFL stadiums.
Instead, the stadium features:
- A massive translucent roof that blocks much of the direct sunlight.
- Open sides that allow natural airflow throughout the venue.
- A naturally ventilated design rather than a fully climate-controlled indoor environment.
This approach helps reduce heat while maintaining an open-air atmosphere.
Why Doesn’t SoFi Stadium Need Air Conditioning?
Unlike fully enclosed domed stadiums, SoFi Stadium was designed to take advantage of Southern California’s generally mild climate.
The translucent canopy provides shade for spectators while allowing natural light inside, and the open sides encourage breezes to circulate through the seating bowl.
As a result, temperatures inside the stadium are usually similar to the outdoor temperature, though fans are typically more comfortable thanks to the shade and airflow.
What Will Fans Experience During the 2026 FIFA World Cup?
For World Cup matches in Los Angeles, fans can expect:
- Protection from direct sunlight thanks to the stadium’s roof.
- Natural ventilation instead of cooled indoor air.
- Comfortable viewing conditions, especially during evening matches.
While the stadium is not air conditioned, the combination of shade and airflow helps create a more pleasant environment than a traditional open-air stadium.
Which 2026 FIFA World Cup Stadiums Are Air Conditioned?
Several World Cup host venues are fully enclosed and climate controlled, including:
- AT&T Stadium (Arlington, Texas)
- Mercedes-Benz Stadium (Atlanta, Georgia)
- NRG Stadium (Houston, Texas)
- BC Place (Vancouver, Canada) when its retractable roof is closed
These stadiums can maintain cooler indoor temperatures regardless of outdoor weather conditions.
