Malik Nabers Injury Update: Giants WR Expected to Avoid PUP List, Week 1 Return Considered Realistic

Posted on July 24, 2026July 24, 2026 by Santiago Leon

The outlook for New York Giants wide receiver Malik Nabers continues to improve ahead of the 2026 NFL season.

According to ESPN Giants reporter Jordan Raanan, Nabers is expected to avoid the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list, with playing in Week 1 now considered “a realistic possibility.” The latest report is another encouraging sign as the young star continues his recovery from a torn ACL.

Malik Nabers Expected to Be Ready for Giants Training Camp

Raanan reported that Nabers should be ready to participate when the Giants open training camp, marking a significant milestone in his rehabilitation.

While the organization is expected to take a cautious approach with one of its franchise cornerstones, avoiding the PUP list suggests the recovery process has remained on schedule.

For players recovering from ACL injuries, being cleared to participate in training camp is often a major indicator that they are on track for the regular season.

Week 1 Availability Trending in the Right Direction

Although the Giants are unlikely to rush Nabers back onto the field, the latest update provides optimism that he could be available when New York opens the 2026 regular season.

The team’s medical staff will likely continue monitoring his workload throughout training camp and preseason, gradually increasing his participation before making a final decision on his Week 1 status.

If Nabers continues progressing without setbacks, his return could provide an immediate boost to the Giants’ passing attack.

Why Avoiding the PUP List Matters

The PUP list is designed for players who are not yet physically ready to practice at the start of training camp.

Avoiding that designation allows Nabers to:

  • Participate in training camp activities.
  • Work alongside teammates during preseason preparations.
  • Build chemistry with the Giants’ offense before the regular season.
  • Follow a gradual return-to-play plan without the restrictions associated with the PUP list.

While his practice workload may still be managed carefully, remaining off the PUP list gives the coaching staff greater flexibility in preparing him for the season.

Giants Taking the Long-Term Approach

Given Nabers’ importance to the franchise, the Giants are expected to prioritize his long-term health over rushing him back into action.

Even if he participates in training camp, the coaching staff could limit his preseason snaps to ensure he is fully recovered for meaningful games.

That measured approach aligns with how NFL teams typically handle elite players returning from significant knee injuries.

Outlook for the 2026 NFL Season

Based on the latest reporting, Malik Nabers appears to be trending toward a successful return for the start of the 2026 campaign.

While nothing has been officially finalized regarding his Week 1 availability, avoiding the PUP list and being expected to participate in training camp represent two of the strongest indicators yet that the Giants’ star receiver is nearing a return.

If his recovery continues on its current trajectory, Nabers could be back on the field when the Giants begin the 2026 regular season, giving New York one of its most explosive offensive weapons once again.
