Why Isn’t Jeremiyah Love Playing Today for Cardinals vs. Panthers in 2026 NFL Hall of Fame Game?

Posted on August 6, 2026 by Santiago Leon

Arizona Cardinals fans hoping to get their first look at Jeremiyah Love in an NFL game will have to wait a little longer.

Love is not playing for the Arizona Cardinals against the Carolina Panthers in the 2026 Pro Football Hall of Fame Game, as the Cardinals have elected to rest their highly touted rookie running back.

The good news for Arizona fans is that Love’s absence is not believed to be injury-related. Instead, the Cardinals are taking a cautious approach with one of the most important young players on their roster.

Why Is Jeremiyah Love Not Playing vs. Panthers?

The Cardinals are holding Jeremiyah Love out of the Hall of Fame Game as a precautionary decision.

Arizona does not need to use the additional preseason game to determine Love’s place on the roster. The rookie is expected to have a significant role in the Cardinals’ offense during the 2026 NFL season, making keeping him healthy considerably more important than giving him snaps in the opening exhibition game.

The Hall of Fame Game also gives Arizona an extra preseason contest compared with most NFL teams, further reducing the need to play key starters and high-profile players.

Is Jeremiyah Love Injured?

There has been no indication that an injury is the reason Love is sitting out against Carolina.

His absence is instead part of Arizona’s plan to protect players expected to have major roles once the regular season begins.

That should be encouraging news for Cardinals fans concerned about Love’s status heading into the remainder of training camp and preseason.

When Will Jeremiyah Love Play for the Cardinals?

Love could potentially make his Cardinals preseason debut later in August, although Arizona may continue to manage his workload carefully.

The Cardinals still have additional preseason games following the Hall of Fame Game, giving the coaching staff opportunities to get Love live NFL reps without rushing him onto the field.

How much Love ultimately plays during the preseason will likely depend on Arizona’s evaluation of his development in training camp and how much game experience the coaching staff believes he needs before Week 1.

Why the Cardinals Are Being Careful With Jeremiyah Love

There is little upside to exposing an important offensive player to unnecessary injury risk during the first preseason game.

Love enters his rookie season with major expectations after an impressive college career at Notre Dame. His combination of speed, explosiveness and big-play ability gives Arizona another potential weapon in its backfield.

Rather than focusing on preseason production, the Cardinals’ priority is having Love healthy and prepared when the games begin to count.

Cardinals vs. Panthers Hall of Fame Game

The Arizona Cardinals and Carolina Panthers are meeting in the 2026 Pro Football Hall of Fame Game, officially opening the NFL preseason.

While Love will not participate, the matchup provides Arizona with an opportunity to evaluate younger players, roster-bubble candidates and backups competing for positions on the final 53-man roster.

For Love, the wait for his first NFL game action will continue.

Bottom Line

Jeremiyah Love is not playing for the Arizona Cardinals against the Carolina Panthers in the 2026 Hall of Fame Game because the Cardinals have chosen to rest him.

His absence is not believed to be related to an injury. Arizona is simply taking a cautious approach with its rookie running back and preserving him for the games that matter most.

Love could make his preseason debut later in August as the Cardinals continue preparations for the 2026 NFL regular season.
