Frank Gore retires

Posted on April 3, 2022May 4, 2022 by Santiago Leon

Frank Gore, who played 16 seasons with the San Francisco 49ers, Indianapolis Colts, Miami Dolphins, New York Jets, and Buffalo Bills, told TheSFNiners podcast that he plans to sign a one-day contract with the 49ers at some point in the next few months so that he can retire as a member of the team that drafted him.

Gore was a third-round pick (No. 65 overall) out of the University of Miami back in 2005. He spent the first decade of his career in San Francisco before playing three years in Indianapolis and then one season each with Miami, New York, and Buffalo.

He finished his playing career with 3,735 carries for exactly 16,000 yards, third-most in NFL history behind only Emmitt Smith and Walter Payton.

Frank Gore tells @TheSFNiners_ podcast that he will be signing a one-day contract with the 49ers and will retire from the NFL.

He finishes his career with the 3rd most rushing yards in NFL history (16,000).
