Tottenham Hotspur captain Son Heung-min is finalizing a move to Los Angeles FC, with a medical underway ahead of a record-breaking $26.5 million transfer, according to The Athletic. This fee surpasses the previous MLS incoming record of $22 million.
The 33-year-old South Korean forward has already agreed personal terms with LAFC and rejected interest from Saudi clubs, preferring Major League Soccer. Son became emotional during his farewell match in Seoul, expressing deep gratitude to Tottenham fans and reflecting on his journey from a non-English-speaking teenager to club legend.
Son joined Spurs in 2015 from Bayer Leverkusen, amassing 173 goals in 450 appearances, and was named club captain in 2023. He played a key role in Tottenham’s Europa League triumph in May, ending their 17-year trophy drought.
His move to LAFC reunites him with former teammate Hugo Lloris, while Gareth Bale, another Spurs icon, previously won the MLS Cup with the club. LAFC is also reportedly considering Ange Postecoglou, recently sacked by Spurs, as a future managerial option.
