New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso hit his 253rd home run Tuesday to pass Darryl Strawberry for the most homers in franchise history.
The record-breaking homer came during Alonso’s 965th game with New York. Strawberry hit his 252nd homer with the Mets during his 1,106th game in 1990.
“As a kid you don’t really think that it’s in the realm of possibility to be a franchise home run leader,” Alonso said, according to SNY. “You just want to get to the big leagues and give it your best.”
