The Buffalo Bills are interviewing Philip Rivers on Friday for their vacant head coaching job, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Rivers, 44, came out of retirement this season to be the Indianapolis Colts’ quarterback after an injury to starter Daniel Jones. He is currently the head coach at St. Michael Catholic High School and has held the job since 2021. He’s compiled a 43-15 record during his tenure.
The Bills are the first team to interview him in this year’s head coaching cycle. If he gets the job, Rivers would be the first full-time NFL head coach without previous college or pro coaching experience since 1961, Schefter adds. The Colts hired Jeff Saturday on an interim basis with the same lack of experience in 2022.
Rivers went 0-3 in three starts with Indianapolis this season, completing 63% of his throws for 544 yards and four touchdowns. He was selected fourth overall by the New York Giants in the 2004 draft, but he was packaged in a trade to the then-San Diego Chargers for Eli Manning after Manning refused to play for the Chargers organization.
