When the Cupboard is Bare, Get a Bear

Let’s face it, there are no “alpha dogs” to run the ball in Philly. So, the Eagles have spent time deliberating how to remedy that. Some analysts and draft experts suggested that they may turn to former Alabama runningback, Josh Jacobs. Up to this point, Jacobs has been touted as the best at his position in the NFL Draft. However, enter Chicago, who was trying dole out some backs from their crowded cupboard. Specifically, it was Jordan Howard, whom they had been shopping around, hoping to find a taker before losing in him free agency. So, instead of going young, Philly opted for the experienced/established runner in Howard.

Jordan Howard has been a solid runner dating back to his days with UAB (The University of Alabama at Birmingham) where he rushed 1,587 yards his sophomore season. Then at Indiana University, he accumulated 1,213 yards and 9 touchdowns. He rushed for a season-high 238 yards and 2 touchdowns against Michigan in 2015. That success would continue into the NFL. In the 2016 NFL Draft, the Bears selected him in the 5th round, 150th overall. Jordan Howard was one of the steals of the draft. Howard would make the Pro Bowl that year after rushing for 1,313 yards and 6 touchdowns. He gained 1,122 yards and 935 yard with a combined 18 touchdowns the following 2 seasons.

Those accomplishments have now landed in in the city that Rocky Balboa built. For their troubles, the Bears are receiving a 6th round pick in 2020 as a part of the deal that can become a 5th rounder. So, with this acquisition, business has picked up for Philly as they now have their “Alpha Dog” or “Eagle”. Expect big things from Jordan in Philadelphia.
