We have a shakeup in the College Football Playoff Top Rankings! After an exciting weekend, we saw LSU take down it’s conference nemesis, Alabama, after an 8 year drought. Along with erasing the streak, the Tigers have seemingly taken the lead of the SEC West and the No. 1 spot in this week’s edition of the rankings.
Just behind them are the Ohio State Buckeyes at No. 2, who have been equally impressive as the Tigers. Ohio State still has a compelling schedule down the stretch that could have an outcome in the grand scheme of things. The defending National Champions Clemson are sitting at No. 3. Based on the eye test, the Tigers have the easiest path to the playoffs. However, Dabo has his squad playing their best football of the season.
The most interesting spot at No. 4 is held by none other than the Georgia Bulldogs. Wins over Florida and Notre Dame were enough to convince the committee to give them the edge over Alabama. Apparently, the home loss to a seemingly bad South Carolina team was not enough to detour voters.
At No. 5 is the Alabama Crimson Tide who came 5 points shy of what would have been an incredible come-from-behind victory over LSU. The window of hope left for the Tide is by beating Auburn and praying things fall their way. Just behind them is Oregon at No. 6. The Ducks only loss comes at the hands of Auburn. Since, they have been unbeaten and appear to be in the drivers seat for a PAC12 title.
Keep your eyes on #12 Auburn, who sits in prime position to rain on everyone’s parade. They have matchups against No.4 Georgia and No.5 Alabama left. If they find a way to walk away with victories against both of their hated rivals, they could shake everything up. The Tigers definitely have a strong schedule to make a case for them to go along with that.
It can only get more exciting from this point on. There are more pivotal games left that will have a lasting affect in the rankings. The question now on everyone’s mind is, what will happen next?
