Today’s sponsor is is the Bible crave versus in pictures download is the Bible today in the Apple App Store. biggest fight of the year, and it’s only February. Wilder vs fury biggest fight in a while. I’m not a boxing fan. But we got Tyler Turner to talk to us a little bit about this whole fight Tyler Welcome back to the sports cast. We were talking before I was looking for a boxing interviews and I realized Tyler is a boxer himself himself. Tyler can tell us a little bit of a little bit about how your boxing background Yeah,
Tyler Turner
we talk college football. We never talked boxing. Exactly. Mostly mostly college football tetrick talk on our little chat but yeah, a boxing background. I live pretty much my entire life. I was talking to my wife about it. Go I fought in that in the juniors. The younger age groups 16 below. So silver gloves. I won national, the National Junior Olympics. Back in 1999. I was a silver medalist as a junior international tournament. I fought with boxing people you probably don’t know these names Santiago but boxing people are listening. I fought with Andre Ward, who’s been one of the best boxers over the past decade. I fought with sonido there he was my roommate actually. Who else a lot of tournaments I mean, like Terence Crawford bought at the Golden Gloves that I was at Shawn Porter at Golden Gloves out that Demetrius Andrade, a cocky little Tucker, he is he five at the National Golden Gloves that I was at and most importantly, Deontay Wilder me and him both spot at the 2007 Golden Gloves. He was at 201 pounds and under, and I was at 201 Plus, I was playing college football, I decided, hey, I want to make the Olympics. So I went to the qualified I won state regional tournament and I made the national goal was and I actually went to the finals. I lost in the finals to the Daniel James. And at that same tournament, Deontay Wilder won the 201 under and I remember seeing Wilder fight, and I was like, Damn, those guys suck at that weight class. Like my weight class, go one plus had some really good vitamins. I had beat in the semi finals the number one rated fighter in the country which is young Dante Willis I knocked him out actually in the fourth round to make it to the finals and the weight underneath me and other girls hockey with some other guys like man these guys at the undertone one are very good and that’s like not not a falling out listening to my podcast and that’s what I thought of them. And so actually so I lost and then I there was a show show fi in Tennessee like two weeks later and I was going to go to the Western trial and I’m roads got really bad I’m sorry. I’m like driving around here but so on the roads are horrible. Anyway, so I was going to go so I actually had people contact Deontay Wilder, because while there’s some Alabama, it was the show was in Tennessee. And so I had people call Wilder and asked him if he wanted to fight me and They scale back and said that I was too big. They’re like, Oh no, he’s too big. Because I think while there’s that time was like, you need us same high 6566 but he weighed like 190 pounds. And I was probably about to 25 this right after I played football, the funny thing is, while there’s probably like to 25 now, and I’m like 200 so we went opposite direction. You’re more ripped right now. Anyway. I’m ugly. I’m smaller, more lean. Yeah. Um, but anyways, so while there didn’t fight me, I went to the watch your trials end up losing. And I actually got out of locks and and obviously Deontay Wilder went on, he made Olympic trials. He actually qualified by winning the national Golden Gloves. He won the US Olympic trials. He won that one, the American qualifier, and he went to the 2008 Olympic Games, I think was a visioning if I can remember correctly and he won. Metal is actually the only American metal that year not a good year for them. So yeah, that’s my background but yeah I was very successful I called a lot of guys
Tyler Turner
I’m gonna say now I like as a skilled fighters skills like skills like ability to throw different punches around the ring, ring generalship I have more skills than Deontay did, especially at that point in his career. He was very raw. He probably I heard when I was asking around I heard he had only like nine fights. And he was just this like tall skinny dude who hit really hard. And he didn’t really have any particular skills. He wasn’t the most impressive looking fighter but he won. And, and he, you know what? He’s still even at at 43 fights as a pro. He’s still not crazy skills. He still has his own little stick, you know, or He relies on that punching power. But it’s really impressive what he’s done. He just he just, he can hit hard. And yeah, that’s my Deontay Wilder story. And that’s my dad. That’s why I experiences
Santiago Leon
this give back to the chase we’ll talk more about Tyler’s experiences with boxing and I do want x difference but I’ll then we’ll get to that a little bit after the the segment. Deontay Wilder versus Tyson fury Tyler to all the people that don’t follow low boxing and are thinking about buying the pay per view. How big is this fight?
Tyler Turner
Wilder Wilders the American he’s a heavyweight champion, he knocks pretty much everyone out he’s actually not I believe everyone out except for one person. And he’s he’s just random. Yeah, too as a puncher, now. geocodes and fury has also never lost He’s a very different fighter. I remember fury actually two in the amateurs I didn’t fight with him. I remember seeing him in the Olympics. And he was he was he unlike while there was very skilled on you know, who very well, definitely knew knew the nuances of the game. Probably I haven’t looked at it but he probably started fighting at a younger age. Not not the puncher that Wilder was that very skilled. I mean, Tyson fury. If you followed him to the amateurs or even his professional career, he’s always been a very skilled guy. He’s a guy that can is a really good boxer. And when they fought the first time so this is their second fight, the first fight to the ad, he really outbox Wilder, it really, from a points perspective, very was a much superior boxer. He got knocked down twice, including in the last round where he almost got knocked out. And that ended up being the reason why the fight was a draw. But the reason why they’re the two best heavyweights they’re both only blemish is Draw between each other and you have a very good boxer against a very good puncher a boxer injury and puncher and Wilder.
Santiago Leon
The fight is in Las Vegas. Wait, is in Las Vegas or is in New York?
Tyler Turner
Let me check. I think Vegas I’m not sure. Yeah,
Santiago Leon
it is. Yeah, sorry. It’s at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. It is just like Mr. Tyler Turner said it’s a it’s an American versus a Brit. So a lot going on across the pond as well. I actually listen to British radio and they’ve been bumping this fight for like the past week. So I was like, Oh crap, it’s tomorrow. It’s at 9pm it’s 80 bucks. Actually, you can see it on ESPN plus actually. Which is like
Tyler Turner
you have to purchase it. Well. I think you have to purchase it on a stamp watsu though.
Santiago Leon
Yes, right so it’s
Tyler Turner
at you. You can Yeah, you can watch. If you have the same plot, you can watch it on ESPN plus, but you still have to purchase it. So I mean, I’m excited. It’s a good. The first flight was good. The second fight will be good day. Today’s Wilder, it’s just so hard to predict his fights is he hits so hard and he was like that in the amateurs would not hurt when I saw him. I mean, there was no denying he could hit really hard, even when he was so unskilled was like, dang. He’s so tall. He’s so long hit so freaking hard. And that’s just been a calling card and why is almost unbeatable is if he hits you, it hurts you and he, more often than not, you can’t you can’t really come back from it. So it’s always hard to predict against the guy especially as a heavyweight to get hit like that. But as an actual boxer
Tyler Turner
It
Santiago Leon
Are you there Tyler? sorry about that guys hold on here.
Santiago Leon
I got disconnected on Skype so things start to happen when you try to connect to the people who there Tyler Okay, I’m trying to connect with the the guy from Twitter, BTR boxing.
Sean Barstow
I’m here as well. Now, Santiago.
Santiago Leon
Hey, man, how are you?
Sean Barstow
Good. Thank you.
Santiago Leon
Good. Meet Tyler Turner. He’s our other contributor for the sports cast. Okay.
Santiago Leon
So can you tell us a brief introduction of yourself and also, your website and your podcast, I believe?
Sean Barstow
Yeah, so, my name is Sean Barstow. You can find me I’m Sean BTR boxing. And basically, I am a fan like most people, but decided to channel some of my love of the sport into the media side. And I currently have the BTR boxing Podcast Network. And there’s also a website called FBR boxing.com, which, as a great number of contributors, and just like a lot of people really just enjoy the sport and just feel like we’ve got something to give to fans out there to contribute to what is a obviously a great landscape for boxing at the moment.
Santiago Leon
And can you tell us your name again? One more time?
Sean Barstow
Yes, so we say Shawn busto, Shawn bti boxing.
Santiago Leon
So Shawn, tell us about this fight. How I mean, is this the biggest fight of the year?
Sean Barstow
Yes, the short answer is yes. The longer version is I can’t see any other fight this year. That’s gonna live up to the excitement of what we’ve got this fight week and there was always going to be a worry that this fight was going to be under promoted. There was a few people speaking about this a few weeks ago on social media saying, you know, this is going to be one of them fights that it’s not going to be promoted as well as it should be. But I believe they did a halftime commercial during the Super Bowl, which was obviously a big plug for the fight itself. And then this week alone, it’s been amazing in terms of the amount of different media appearances both Deontay Wilder and Tyson fury have been a part of here in the UK, Tyson fury got a documentary that stuff dead on a terrestrial network called ITV called the Gypsy kings. So it’s all been released to coincide with this particular fight week. So yeah, the hype is definitely real and in terms of it being a big fight, biggest fight of the Unless Unless we get another mega fight that gets made in the next couple of months. I can’t see any other fighter living up to it.
Santiago Leon
I do want to tell you that our contributor Tyler has fought I mean not fought but he’s known Wilder. He fought in like the same a boxing ring Tyler key tell us a little bit like about your background with Deontay Wilder.
Tyler Turner
Yeah, I just I’ve been on here for about 10 minutes so I already got so I’ll just do a quick one because I already went into a long spiel of that. But uh, yeah, I was I was actually a fighter. I fought back I like I you know these guys john I fought back in the juniors Junior national. I followed guys like Andre Ward I was roommates with don’t do don’t air. I fought also with like Terence Crawford me taught at at the Golden Globes together. Demetrius Andrade up on it. The gold was with me Shawn Porter for the Golden Gloves with me. So I fought with all these dudes back into juniors and like under 19 ranks and then went on About, I played college football, so I was boxer that was college football scholarship, American football that is not soccer. I can’t play soccer. I played, I played college football. And then I was just like Alma try to make the 2008 US Olympic trials. So then I did a couple qualifying tournament I made the national goal was I ended up losing in the national Gonzalez finals. And I was fighting that jewel one plus, while the guy who bought it under to a one was Deontay Wilder. I remember seeing him and I was like, and I saw that he thought, actually, I think he fought in the semi finals. A guy from my region, I was out the DC, Washington DC region. And I was like, man, he’s garbage. I’m dead serious of a hit terrible. But he won anyone he won the semi final match and then he won the finals and he ended up being the gold block champion and I lost in the final But then I was going to go fight in the Western Isles. And I actually there was a show in Tennessee. And I was like, I have my coach. I’m like that while they’re doing he brought it to a one where the promise. They’re like, Oh, it’s Alabama. I’m like, call his people I want to fight him because I wanted to warm up for this Lester trial. So I guess they called Wilder and they couldn’t set up the fight. Because they said I weighed too much. I think I was like 225 at the time. So then I didn’t end up fighting Wilder I went to Washington was actually lost. I then at that point, ended up world of life. And but then I followed Dante Wilder and he made the Olympic team and he ended up going to Olympics, and he was the only American to actually win a medal that year, which was crazy. There’s some great Americans like Andrade and where she warned and stuff but none of them won medals only job they wanted and obviously he has become Deontay Wilder. He’s a heavyweight champion, or I don’t know, six, seven years now with 11 title defenses and so I had a journey and Dante Wilder was along that way he was in that you know, I never fought him but I knew him and it’s crazy what happened to him If you had told me back in 2007 you know that guy and under to one that ago to be the World Heavyweight Champion, defend the title 11 times probably be the best American heavyweight over the past decade out of said, Hell no, that guy is stuck because I saw it. I’m like, he’s not very skilled. He’s awkward. He’s a long gangly dude. He’s obviously gotten bigger. I mean, back then. He was literally 6619 I mean, he looked crazy out there. He was not most heavyweights. Most guys under two one. We’re probably you know, like 511 six foot, six foot six dude. Was 190 pounds you look crazy out there. And so I just was like, No, I didn’t think he’s a boxer. But he won. He was successful. And then look what happened to him now he’s a world champion. He knocked he’s knocked out. What is it? 41 or 42 people? Yeah, so it’s pretty, pretty, pretty remarkable to see dr.
Santiago Leon
john, any response to that?
Sean Barstow
Well, it’s a pretty remarkable story. Obviously, it being a UK, UK based fight fan. You know, we don’t always get to see and hear about fights like Deontay Wilder until they literally go and beat somebody that is a UK based However, when he came over, I think it was on 2013 came over and be a former Olympian ardley Harrison as well who, you know, arguably the greatest of previous professional careers, he was someone that definitely didn’t live up to the hype, but the story about Deontay Wilder Tyler And the question I probably got to you is, how much is he improved from the days when you see him?
Tyler Turner
Oh, drastically. I mean, you’d probably agree with me as a box and that Deontay Wilder still is not extremely skilled. Like if you like compared to Tyson fury, like, or even compared oddly, Harrison. I remember oddly hurts and he was probably 40 he was he was older than me, but Harrison was skilled. I mean, Harrison had night skills. And James Joyce, who I believe is a rising heavyweight. He’s nice. He’s a skilled fighter. I’m Tyson fury skilled. I think there was a David Price that was back a little bit before me. He was skilled Deontay next to them, not even close. I mean, he was so poor from a technical standpoint. He had a weird jab. He didn’t really throw a hook. He just so awkward me. So Long and, and so he has improved a lot. But it is amazing what just that natural ability being able to knock someone out with one punches, because even to this day when I see Dante, he still is like not he’s not super skilled, he’s not even close to appeal to Tyson. He just doesn’t feel the little nuances of like throwing the hook the proper way or, you know, turn it over your punch, or even turning a fighter if he still is not, but it doesn’t really matter, because he has the one equalizer and that dude, give that right hand he can knock anybody out. So that Yeah, he’s improved a lot, but I still wouldn’t put if I want to love the sweet science. I would in love how someone looks and how they throw their punches and the combinations they use. Deontay Wilder is not a person that I turn on a video for.
Santiago Leon
Sean key tell us your quick When I quake but your preview for this fight, what’s going to happen?
Sean Barstow
Well, I think a lot of like a lot of people for most of the week, I’ve been on an hour in and have been sat on the fence a little bit as to how I think this fights ultimately going to go down and reassess in the first fight. Looking back at the first fight. I felt like Tyson Fury won that first fight. Obviously people will have their own interpretation of how they saw that fight. But I think there was a lot of ringside observers that felt fury won that fight basically due to the skills that Tyler was referring to earlier, the way he’s able to step off and the way he’s able to dodge the shots up. He was notified while he was normally fine. Everything Deontay Wilder had apart from them two lapses of concentration which he got knocked down twice and then somehow managed to rise from the cameras on that second one of course we’ll we’ll never know but he’s, it’s a difficult one to predict because most people are expecting the same instance of how the fight is going to go down. They’re expecting Tyson fury to probably come out and be smart, although he’s saying he’s going to knock Wilder out within two rounds are just in that trash talk. I just think he’s trying to get under Deontay Wilder skin and judging by some of the press conferences, and some of the media for example have seen this week. It looks like he might have got a little bit under his skin. It was like Deontay Wilder has met his match in terms of someone that can talk as much trust as he can and get into a character and get into a persona and I certainly think that I certainly think that that’s been good for boxing in that respect and good for for people coming over from say different sports to want to watch this particular fight and getting out again in the eyes on the sport. So it’s been good in that respect. But going back to the point of the fight and how I see this fight going down I do see it being tentative again. I do see it being a newly and any other tentative star I think Tyson fury is going to come out he’s probably going to show a little bit of bravado in the first few rounds. He’s going to try and make Wow this is you’re going to get wild frustrated again our is Wilder going to be a little bit more smart. The RTS fight basically shown is that at times, Wilders skill is a little bit lackluster compared to some of these elite heavyweights and it again shown as it was that one punch in that seventh round and that one combination that that finish that one particular fight as it nearly did with the first fury fight. So is Wilder in his team prepared for what Tyson fury is now got? Did he feel he’s got something different now? He’s gone to Sugar Hill Stewart, do you think there’s going to be a difference in the tactics are adopted there? There’s a lot of questions that are going to be answered on Saturday night in terms of how I feel the fight will go and I’m not being biased being a UK fan when I say this, but I do genuinely believe Tyson fury has got the skills to nullify Deontay Wilder his right hand and I do believe a lot of boxing and I do believe we’ll get a you unanimous decision victory and although all the all the officials are American, I don’t think that’s gonna make a difference to be honest with you. And this is why I think Tyson fury what we’ve been doing over the past six months he’s going over to America being promoted by Bob our own top rank and obviously they have to fight with Tom Schwartz and came out to living in America Apollo Creed James Brown know all the guilt and he’s won a lot of American funds over as far as I can see and interpret that he seems to be the biggest star even though he’s the Brit coming over to America, but this particular fight, so I don’t think the judges and the officials going to make a difference he goes 12 rounds i think i think Tyson fury will outbox him and I’m expecting I honestly I’m I’m probably going out on a pedestal when I say this, but I’m saying probably going to be 116 112 I think he’ll be I think you know, Wilder will get shared around in this fight and they will cause some problems may even put him on the canvas again, but I think Tyson fury could certainly get backup like you did last time and it’s probably the only man who has done that so Tyson Fury by unanimous decision for me
Santiago Leon
Tyler came very be welded this time
Tyler Turner
you know, this is kind of what makes it difficult is like I said I bought my whole entire life and from a time perspective you know and and shout out to all these guys you know I love my favorite fighters are the Willie tap Sugar Ray Leonard Ray Robinson and the heavyweight division would be to Lewis and Charles. So from a sweet sides perspective perspective, everything about me said I liked I think you’re I logged in as a skilled fighter. I think you one of the more most skilled heavyweights that I’ve seen personally over the last decade, meaning he he works the ring well, his great ring generalship, he throws his punches at different angles, everything about him as a boxer I like better than Deontay Wilder. But Deontay Wilder from the his amateur career, through his professional career has only lost one time. He’s been boxing since he was I think he started if I remember his story, 18 years old, and he’s lost one died. Not the most skilled guy, but he has the one thing that you just can all when it comes to the heavyweight division. If someone has that knockout power, and I’m not talking about he has, there’s knockout power, and then there is like knock out power. And Deontay Wilder hit as hard as anyone maybe ever in the division. The only person that I can think of with one punch that had the same kind of power was George Foreman. And in the heavyweight division, it’s hard to pick against that because all they have to do is hit you one time and it can knock you out and become That I will not I can’t think against Deontay Wilder. Well, I think he’s gonna dry out. And I think he’s gonna get out box. I think he’ll probably be down like six rounds to zero or seven rounds to zero. I’ll just hit that. I think he’s knocked on seventh round. I think he’s down six round zero. But I think he catches guys and theoretically knocked him out. He almost knocked about the last time and I agree with Sean I actually thought that Tyson fury deserves the decision to fight the two knockdown. I thought he was way ahead. In my points. I didn’t think it was called at all. So actually even type five to two knockdowns I think I did my own card. I hadn’t waited by like one point which is pretty remarkable because every when you inbox it if you knock someone down, you win the round by two points. So taking away those couple knockdowns I had a fury winning like nine rounds three or something but then when you add the two knockdowns and that’s a four point swing deal five That he adds them despite that. And so if it goes the distance unless he somehow replicates they would like to three knockdowns I think very went and so I agree with that goes the distance if you’re against the victory, I’d say while the knock knock I it’s tough. I’ve known the guy who started the trail he’s ever done is knock people out. He looks terrible. I don’t get it. Like didn’t get it back then. Like everybody know all the people that know boxing like Floyd Mayweather senior hate them. Because he’s so not skilled. He’s terrible. Like, I’m not over exaggerating. He’s not he does not do the nuances of the game well at all, but he knows how to land that punch. And at the same time, while there has been a chin. It’s not just that he could knock someone out. He does. He can take a punch like Ortiz in that first fight. kinema shots that most guys probably would have been stopped. It didn’t even seem to hurt him. fury in the first fight was hitting Wilder, it didn’t even seem to hurt him. So not only can he have that crazy knockout power, he doesn’t he seems to really be able to take a really good punch. So when you put in a guy, he’s he reminds me of George Foreman, you really dug more than anyone else. And George was never the most skilled. But George one two take a hell of a bunch and he could hit like a brick trick out like a brick. Now the truck out and it’s just so hard to bet against that guy in the heavyweight division. It is so hard, but if I was going to say someone’s going to beat him who beat foreman alley, who could beat Deontay Wilder Tyson fury, a guy who just has amazing skills because he probably could figure out a way to help boxing without taking that serious punch. I just don’t think he will. I’ma say Wilder the seventh round knockout,
Santiago Leon
Shawn, what it comes down the wall there’s punch you think can ferry handle Wilder with his hard punch
Sean Barstow
Well uh he’s shown he can he can get up he got up twice in the first fight I think is evidence in often. Let’s look at the facts of the fight scumbag Deontay Wilder is market the phase you’ve been in the ring with and knocked out Ortiz twice, obviously did he didn’t beat stubborn the first time around a by a knockout. It was a decision but the second time around, he absolutely obliterated him and left that sort of iconic picture of his legs bent backwards on the bottom rope he was, you know, I think that was where a lot of the British fans, they were started to really really buy into Deontay Wilder as the WBC heavyweight champion in the world at this point. And the danger that he really posed for his power is is is unrivaled. Like Tyler said, like, the only other fighter he said was George Foreman and the only other fighter I could think of is Earnie Shavers who had that one corner, one punch can cause a knockout power. That’s the only other one I could think how often boxing history can you deal with the power? Well, I think I mean, I might be comparing the last Ortiz fight too much here but I think the way he was able to was able to nullify Deontay Wilder for them seven rounds was just goes to show like what Tyler was saying really doesn’t seem to have the skill set and the ability to sort of handle that. However, on the flip side of the coin, like Tyler was saying, it only takes that one punch and when that one punch lums is the equalizer of the fight. But can he get up again Tyson fury is he’s very difficult to predict. Again, I’d like to think he can because we’ve seen him do it once in the you know, the 12 round knockout in the first fight. I don’t know how the hell he called from that. I don’t know what was going on there. What was it play, but I’ve never seen anybody get up from a punch like that. And the combination like Tyson fury is probably one of the the first fighters to do that. But can you do it again? That’s the big question. That’s what everybody saying. I think this fight has got a lot of people to Divided we did over ASPR box and we did a lot of stuff predictions article for it and it was literally split down the middle for that as well in terms of how the fight was going down and the general consensus is fury wins on points or wild and knocks him out. And that seems to be what everybody’s saying, but then they try to throw the curveball in there the promoters will say, Oh, well, Tyson fury could stop him. seven eight rounds in I just don’t think he will I just don’t think Tyson fury and stop him. I don’t think he’s Tyson fury. fury does punch hard but he’s not a one punch knockout is like Deontay Wilder, you could possibly hurt him with an accumulation of punches. If he decides he wants to step on the gas a little bit. He’s saying that in the build up to this fight. It’s really interesting. The talk that the the you know, the saying in the press conferences about are they going to come in he is going to bulk up a little bit more. He’s going to put more power into shots. I don’t think they’re going to do that. I think the game plan from the first fly was the one That works. It was just unfortunate that I didn’t get the decision in this in this particular instance. And I think that’s the one they’ll adopt again. It’s really interesting. It’s a really intriguing and interesting fight. And this is why it’s got everybody talking, which is why social media was buzzing with this particular fight because it could go either way. There’s no there’s no one person saying you can get some people in a room and I can guarantee you you’ll get a split you’ll get five of them saying Wilder knocks alfio you’ll get another five of them saying Tyson fury wins by a unanimous decision or on pide so it’s Yeah, it’s got it’s got everybody boys it’s got me boys in it’s got a lot of people here in the UK pulls in and obviously we’re all ready for early morning. Start probably four or five o’clock in the morning and it’ll start over here. So we’re all ready. We’re all pumped for it and yeah, really excited for this fight.
Santiago Leon
Early breakfast now you know how we feel when we watch the Premier League early, early morning, so should be quite interesting. Okay. I know we Know you guys kind of say your predictions ready now you going through this all dialogue? Tyler Give me your final predictions.
Tyler Turner
Yeah yeah, I guess I kind of laid it out I just, I just have to go with wild like I just have not seen and I guess I can we keep on talking about the power but I guess taking into account that Deontay Wilder I think can really actually take a punch to that’s what makes it a little more like eat when George for people to always talk about Todd, he had amazing power, but the thing was when you did hit him, really didn’t hurt him. And so it’s kind of even when you think about the mental aspect of fighting when you’re hitting someone and they’re just sitting there, like laughing at you. And then they hit you with a brick, and then you’re like, oh, wow, livestock. And that’s kind of what I see with Deontay Wilder is he just doesn’t seem to get related to her by punches. He takes a really good punch and then he can hit like a rock. I just think he knocked out Tyson fury and it’s very hard for me to say because I think that Tyson fury I love watching very bad I think he’s so skilled for a heavyweight and have the heavyweight division for so long has lacked really good fighters it just is the heavyweight division the reason why boxing I think faded unlight was no really good heavyweight. Well finally you actually have a very skilled heavyweight in Tyson fury. And at the very same time you have this guy that had like generational power, like since George Foreman and he mentioned already Shavers Good, good, good, grab their shop, dirty dirty Shavers was a guy that had a bunch of power on the thick of forming the Shavers that had that kind of power. And but like it’s been forever since someone had power like Deontay Wilder. But it’s also been forever since you had someone as skilled as fury fury more skilled in the clinch DOS, way more skilled in the Klitschko series more skilled than Lennox Lewis in my opinion. I think the last time you had a heavyweight was like a banker it actually had ended wasn’t a heavyweight really use a blown up light, heavyweight Cruiserweight a great, he’s a great fighter. I don’t take the take the banders was a great, great old timer, but but like he’s a true heavyweight. I think your flat 6566 weighs 250 pounds when he’s in shape to 350 when he’s not, but he’s really skilled. I mean, the guy is very good. He moves Well, he, he throws his punches, so well. He throws his combinations. Well, he’s just he’s just such an impressive skilled, skilled fighter, and I kind of wanted to win. I mean, john is the American I’ve known Deontay since he started, like kinda long to win, but then you I so appreciate Deontay Wilder. Sorry A gift from god he’s born his kid and Alabama that didn’t start fighting till he was 19 it’s kind of a George Foreman like tale like kid just hit like a brick. Just get hit like a freakin brick. So it makes I think it’s to my two favorite heavyweight this century. So going back to started his century this morning, um, these are my two favorites. So they’re fighting each other and I have to ride with the guy with the power with a rag with Deontay Wilder. Shawn, what is your closing final predictions?
Sean Barstow
Well, I’ve said Tyson fury unanimous decision. I expect rocky moments. The one thing I’ve not mentioned during the conversation is whether that previous court against autovalue will have any impact on the fight. Hopefully, the the plastic surgery that he’s had on it will have done a good enough job. So for it not to open up. That could be a financial Could be a factor and that’s not something I think we’ve mentioned in the conversation if if for any reason that goes open again then during the fight I think I’ve changed my prediction because I think it’d be very difficult to Tyson fury to get through a fight with a guy like Deontay Wilder because any lots of concentration and it’s good night Vienna I’m when we know that we know that he’s not going to be able to get up more than once maybe you could get or once but I don’t think you get more than one so the court could be a factor hopefully it won’t hopefully won’t bother the file for they will get a good even 5055 and it’ll keep us on the edge of our seats but ultimately my heart um, I had a saying Tyson fury will outbox Deontay Wilder to a unanimous decision victory. Hopefully the judges won’t play a factor and there won’t be any controversy at the end of it. But this is boxing and as we know, there’s been some controversial scorecards over the years. The first fight a little bit mad we controverts because obviously Tyson fury didn’t win it and people were coming claiming that he won the fight. But ultimately final prediction. I think he’s going to be a really good fight. I think he’s going to be tentative. But I do think we’re going to see burst of action for our and I think Tyson fury will come out the victor with a unanimous decision and new WBC heavyweight champion of the world. And hopefully we’ll get the megaphone and it will be Anthony Joshua. Next.
Santiago Leon
Well, I would like to hear a Mr. Tyler Turner your opinion about the officials being from the States would that matter or not a big deal.
Tyler Turner
There’s no official fee from the United
Santiago Leon
Oh, well, they are indeed from the States.
Tyler Turner
Oh, you mean they’re from the state? Yeah, there’s no meeting I’m hoping that I just hope it they just look at the five objectives. I don’t want boxing to get a bad decision now just be such a. There’s so many bad decisions in boxing over the past. I mean, it’s ridiculous. From blocking the Alvarez first fight. I mean, there’s been so many just crazy bad decisions that hopefully they just look at it and the whoever wins wins, like, you know, I don’t think it’s as hard as they seem to make it but since you brought up Joshua, do you like Joshua?
Sean Barstow
I do you have what’s Joshua from the Olympics from the 2012 Olympics? I watched him progress. And I’ve watched his career progress today. And I think the I think the biggest issue with me Joshua is that he’s, he’s, he’s grown so so much over the past few years that he just feels like there’s been too many people around him there’s been too much of an entourage is too many people telling him what he needs to get up and wear every day and where he needs to be all the time. And I think I think that last one, the rereads was probably a combination of a lapse of concentration and taking these I and the hunger away from the sport and I think he’s, he’s proven he’s got that back now. And we want See these magnifies these three guys are we talking about Joshua wild if you’re a you know these are the fights we all want to see we want to see these three get it on in different capacities and see who is the best heavyweight of of this generation. So yeah, I do like Joshua I like both of them. If you were going to ask me a different question he was going to ask me who would win if Joshua versus fury happened then I would still stick with Europe because I just think he’s got the best skills overall as a fighter and that’s that’s that’s my opinion, but we’ll see what happens you all probably really banked on what happens in this fight because if if the fight is if it’s a one way street and Tyson through for example, Tyson fury wins this quite clearly on wins the file then, is Deontay Wilder really going to exercise his right for a rematch. He said that he’s got 30 days. The loser has 30 days to exercise their right to a rematch in this, I think would Deontay Wilder do it. I don’t know what Tyson fury do if he got knocked out. Honestly, eight times. safe because it depends on how it all ends and whether they exercise their right to do that. I just want to see a clear winner in this fight and I want to see the winner then move on to fight Anthony Joshua
Santiago Leon
tie any response to that? Yeah.
Tyler Turner
Oh yeah, I guess I asked him the question about Joshua. I’m not a Joshua. I you know, I just I don’t think he’s near as skilled as it’s very I just don’t think he’s really muscular. And you like, Oh, that’s good. No, it’s not actually I didn’t look at it through the annals of I know, Holyfield was pretty but he was so skill they started off as a smaller man, and then he built up this muscle but he had already gotten all those skills in place. I just get a little tight. He’s a little he’s not quite as he’s not really super fluid. He doesn’t have the punching power of Deontay Wilder, he’s not as field is not as fluid as Tyson fury. I think he was losing the ball. I think you get pretty I fury and I think you get knocked out by Wilder. So, I mean, do I think that Jonathan terrible? No, I don’t think he’s a solid but I definitely you know, one a one B with Wilder because of the punching power and fury because of his skills. And then it’s I think a little bit of a gap and I have I have Joshua, it from my perspective I just don’t like him here in LA.
Santiago Leon
Well there you have it. Those are the big three. Tomorrow the fight is tomorrow night. February 22. Live from Las Vegas MGM Grand Can I get any bigger than that? Yeah, you can watch it here in the States on ESPN plus, or on pay per view of via Fox or if you’re in England, you can watch it on BT Sport. It’s 80 bucks here how much it How much would it be over there
Sean Barstow
is 24 pounds and 95 pence which creates controversy in the UK because people don’t want to pay it but why I always like to remind people that Is that the fact that you guys have to pay $80 which is probably about 6070 pounds over here?
Santiago Leon
Yeah, we got a little bit more expensive. I think if you go to a restaurant they might charge you ahead or they just want you to just buy food and watch the fight. I not sure but last time I went to a fight, there were people waiting there for two hours before the fight happens. So it ain’t get pretty crowded probably over there as well. I mean, go into a pub is probably really crowded.
Sean Barstow
Yeah, it is. It is. It is. I don’t think I think with over here, we’ve got a certain sort of aspects of the community that really really embrace and love the boxing and we have a lot of bars and pubs in well I’m based in Manchester in the UK. So in Manchester City Center, they will have a lot of places where they do they do sort of deals where you can pay a certain amount and just go in and watch the fight but then say offer free course meal and going in jar that and casinos as well seems to be a big thing. casinos in support a lot of the big fights on as well. Obviously, people go in and spend a lot of money on on betting on the fight and of course game at the roulette table as well while they’re there. So he said he Yeah, he’s one of them fights that gets everybody going and obviously, we’re all looking forward to it. I think the one criticism I think people are having in the UK is they don’t think the undercard is as good as what it could be. But then I can’t really remember an undercard in the past 20 years for a big fight like this that has been every fight top to bottom. Excellent and on paper, a fantastic fight.
Santiago Leon
And real brief Sean what who is fighting for the undercard.
Sean Barstow
So on this particular fight, we’ve got an interesting one. We got Charles Martin, where he’s Gerald Washington happening on the undercard and that’s accordingly according to various sources on the internet that is apparently to be the number two for the IBF title which Obviously is currently held by Anthony Joshua who’s supposed to be facing Cobra who live in June that’s not been confirmed that’s just what’s been going around through various reputable boxing media sources so whoever wins you never know we could see Anthony Joshua vs. Prince Charles Martin number two so that’s one of the undercard fights we’ve got the return of Emanuel never RT on there as well brilliant fights show you guys all know we move there be Isaac dog bait twice, back to back and then we’ve also got a few on the cat fights flow of fights. We’ve got one of Tyson fury is good friends Isaac low here from the UK, US also on the undercard of that fight as well. There is other fights on there as well. But I think everybody’s only really tuning in for this big fight.
Santiago Leon
Well, there you have it.
Tyler Turner
Good to have you on here. Who would you Who would you kit? In your opinion, currently who would you say the number one pound for pound fighter in the world.
Sean Barstow
Wow, that’s it. That’s a debatable question. Really good question. Yeah, it’s a it’s a heavy one. It’s a heavy one. It’s very difficult. It’s, it can be interpreted in many, many different ways. It depends on what you what you like as a style of style, you know, do you like someone like lomachenko just provides this this unbelievable style of being able to get the punches often stack off before you’ve even you know, before you’ve even felt the third or fourth punch, or you’ve got someone like a canalla, who was sort of progressed over the past decade as a fighter and I did do a pound for pound list of my own when it came towards the end of 2019. And I actually put Candela at the top of it over lomachenko and and people are probably going to listen and go are Why is he doing that? But I just basically put up I felt canalla was I felt he was my number one.
Santiago Leon
Tyler, how about you Who is the best fighter in the world?
Tyler Turner
He’s I followed him since he won the 2008 Olympics because I was really went into those Olympics because I wanted to be in them. So I remember seeing lemon shaker for the first time and I just was like, man, is it his skill level is at a whole nother level. And then obviously, water cup Olympic gold and it had headed over here immediately fought two world titles. I fought at Gary Russell’s gym in DC. And I actually I was like, well, who’s gonna be like, let me check though. He just, he just had to two pro fights. I’m like, Gary was awesome. I mean, he was a great amateur. And he does outbox. Russell bad. And then he went on to, obviously won three division titles and he’s just such terrific fighter. So I lean lemon shenko I really liked Terence Crawford. Don’t him for a while and he’s just continued to get better. Back in amateurs he didn’t even make the Olympic team he was like third place. finished the trials and he went to the pros and he just, he just he just stepped it up a notch and that he was really tenacious in the amateurs. They didn’t have those skills that he did like in the pros and and as a pro, he’s just he’s just stylistically should really use all those physical advantages the long arms, the straight straight puncher, though, the ability to switch the left in conventional and South ball really well. So I really like him, but I always really liked Errol Spence. I know he’s currently recovering from his injury. I he was just terrific coming out of Dallas. He could really do everything in the ring box well, but he can also fight really well inside. He he really dropped smiles in the body, which is something you don’t see as much in boxing today. A lot of headhunters, but Spence’s ability to not only work from the outside but work inside. That is my top three. I’m sorry, I don’t have canal My top three would be probably lomachenko Crawford.
Santiago Leon
And there you have it, there’s tie in Sean’s belief on who’s the best fighter in the world? random question shine. What is the worst pet to have? Snake hamster cat or parent?
Sean Barstow
God is a random question. hamster and it’ll be a hamster because if the escape we can get up between the floorboards of your house and you might never ever find them again.
Santiago Leon
Tyler what is the worst pet to have? Or the snake hamster cat or parrot?
Tyler Turner
Cat
Santiago Leon
snake is winning 71% in the poll hamster and cat are tied for second and parrot came in last I present so the fight Wilder was very is Tomorrow night Live from Las Vegas 9pm you get on pay per view or ESPN plus I believe you have ESPN plus you still got to pay more watch the fight as I swim in Tyler but we’ll find out and we’ll post it on Twitter as soon as possible. Sean Barstow
No, no, sorry. Sorry. I sorry, just just connection. Oh no, it’s okay.
Santiago Leon

Tyler Turner
Team talent formulize the baseline talent of every rock. It’s like the top 25 rosters in college football. And I revised it a little bit. I put a little more weight on higher rated players. So I did my original draft about two weeks ago. And then I ran in revised it and now I have my new draft. And it outlined that we could talk we could do another podcast
Santiago Leon
brief preview about faith based my talent for college football rosters. There you have it and you go on the sports cast net, the sports cast net or on Twitter at the sports cast one we live tweet games and possibly the boxing match. Who knows we’ll keep you guys in tune for that. This is one of our few boxing podcast Sean so I really appreciate you coming on any closing words from you from from like the both of you guys?
Sean Barstow
Yeah, sorry I’ll jump in them before you go. Yeah, so if anybody’s listening and you’re not so sure about these two guys Deontay Wilder versus Tyson fury, you just got to look back through the history of boxing and look at some of the biggest fights gone by and Tyler made a great comparison early on and Muhammad Ali vs. George Foreman, the rumble in the jungle 1974 one of them fights to go and check out and this this is kind of like that, in a way I’m not comparing Tyson fury to Muhammad Ali, but I’m going to say this is a similar style with Muhammad Ali’s and Tyson fury is movement for a big guy and the way you can get in and out so quickly. Deontay Wilder on real power one punch knockout power. It’s a fight not to be missed.
Santiago Leon
Ty Turner closing words before the fight.
Tyler Turner
Yeah, the offer the same kind of sentiment last century so we’re 20 years in, I think fear is the most skilled heavyweight and I think Deontay Wilder is the best puncher powder. I actually think. Well, yeah, while they’re whatever form is done and now I’m talking about the young form and I’m not talking about the old format, whenever the end of the young form and career while there’s the best puncher, one punch puncher, I know you have Tyson, who has obviously had the tenacious combination punching but it just one punch power. I’ve not seen anyone like wild in the heavyweight division fury over the last 20 years that it gives the best skills in the heavyweight division. And that’s what makes it great. You know if you can get a heavyweight who’s really skilled and you can get a heavyweight that cannot get the heck out with one punch. What more can you ask for? So that’s what makes us like, and that battle so good.
Santiago Leon
And there you have it. Wilder vs fury tomorrow night Sunday. At tomorrow night. Live from the Las Vegas MGM Grand guys. I really appreciate you guys coming on to the sports cast. Okay,
Sean Barstow
no problem. Thanks for having us.
