Tide LB Benton No Longer on the Roster

There’s a mystery afoot in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. No, this time it doesn’t involve on-again-off-again transfer portal participant Scooby Carter. Although, I’m sure he really means it this time. Instead, it involves OLB Markhail Benton. Why is this the subject of conversation? If you look at the current roster, Benton is no longer there and for the second time. Yes, a second time.

The first occurrence happened in February. However, the supposed error was corrected and Benton was once again visible to fans wishing to keep up with the former 4-star OLB. No explanation was given. Then again, it appeared to be a simple oversight. So, it didn’t demand much of our attention.

As of this past Monday, the ever elusive roster participant was gone again. Once more, it’s been reported that Markhail has not been around the team, nor has he participated in activities. With that added factor, it certainly has Tide fans asking questions as spring practice quickly approaches.

Before joining the Alabama Crimson Tide, Markhail Benton was the No. 4 player in Alabama and the No. 7 OLB in the country. In the last two seasons, he’s played in 22 games. His most productive season was in 2019. He had 19 tackles, with his most productive game coming against LSU. Benton had 8 tackles.

The future is unclear as to what will become of Markhail. There are a lot of questions surrounding this situation. One thing is for certain, Alabama can’t go one off season without some player drama similar to this. If you’re not familiar, look up Eyabi Anoma and Antonio Alfano. As a matter of fact, once you’ve finished here, read my article on Alfano. Back to the matter at hand. Hopefully, this will all be sorted out soon and the best possible outcome will happen for this young man. Who knows, the disappearing ink may reappear and Benton’s name will be present. It will be something worth watching during spring practice and moments leading up to the A-Day game.
