Sabres fire Jason Botterill, name Kevyn Adams as general manager

Owners Terry and Kim Pegula made sweeping changes to the Sabres’ hockey operations department Tuesday, firing Botterill and naming Kevyn Adams general manager. Botterill’s assistant general managers, Randy Sexton and Steve Greeley, were also fired, a source told The Buffalo News.

Adams, 45, will help reconfigure a hockey department that’s been overhauled twice since November 2013, but he does not have any significant experience working in hockey operations in an NHL front office. Adams is the Sabres’ fourth general manager since the Pegulas purchased the team in February 2011.

Adams played 10 seasons in the NHL before joining the Sabres as development coach in 2009. He spent two seasons as an assistant coach, followed by a stint at LECOM Harborcenter as director of the Academy of Hockey and general manager. Adams most recently worked as the Sabres’ Senior Vice President of Business Administration.
