Thank you so much. Thank you. Oh, thank you for having me here. It’s a pleasure definitely to be talking about this beautiful game and definitely the show that is the Champions League.

Fernando key. Tell us a little bit about yourself and your podcast.

Fernando Ulloa
Sure. Well, I’m a from Honduras. I am an attorney over there. I’m actually right now finishing a I just finished a sports law degree in the University of Miami trying to finish my JD. Of course, I’ve been in love with soccer for however, I remember back in the day, and just recently, last year, I called a friend I was talking with my wife decided like I told him like, hey, I want to do a podcast about soccer. I ran we started it. We tried to do like a little bit of informal, you know, giving news but at the same time making it a little bit more intense. Interesting to to the whole public not to gather a couple of more friends that were subject and that’s how soccer after hours was born.

Soccer after hours I found you guys this morning on Instagram. You follow me? I don’t know how you found me maybe I know some soccer, Instagram accounts and things like that. Fernando, um, you’re from Honduras. Soccer and unders is kind of like, on and off. How big is it right now has a national team reach to that Mexico USA level?

Fernando Ulloa
Oh, not not yet. Sadly, we’re at that point right now. But it’s picking up again. I mean, I don’t know if you’re aware of it, but it took 100 since the World Cup in Spain in 82. It took us 27 years to go back to a World Cup which was South Africa in 2010. And then we went to another World Cup in Brazil. However, we couldn’t make it to Russia and again, team is picking up It’s a process. The manager right now is doing great a great job. We have excellent new talent, some old and mature, you know talent as well as a great board for the team. And hopefully we’re gonna make it to this next workup.

Now you had one special player I believe he played in the MLS but then went to Germany. I can’t remember what’s his name?

Fernando Ulloa
Okay, I believe you I know who you’re talking about. We we’ve had several special players we had playing the MLS that went to Europe home. We had a little head of Spinoza which played for Kansas City and then he went to pay in England also minor Theodore went to England. We had andina had went to and that one that one. Yeah. And you know, who went to Anderlecht and now he’s back in the MLS with de la FC, actually great player. He had an injury but we’re, you know, looking forward to his recovery and hopefully have him back in the national team.

Now how is the MLS view And on do it is is it League, the bn? What is the viewpoint with most fans and Honduras?

Fernando Ulloa
So definitely, it’s a good league and it’s definitely picking up lately. You can see ever since you know the first franchise player David Beckham, it started to pick up fans, of course, you get a personality like David Beckham and your mark is going to grow in some way. And other than that, I believe they have been, you know, putting more effort into what is the MLS, and their system is definitely different than let’s say Europe. It’s different than Honduras, but I can say it’s definitely one of the best licks in the area you know in CONCACAF, I would still pick up Mexico as the best one. That’s right. And then probably the MLS, but it’s great. We have several players here. And Houston Dynamo we have banja Garcia miner Figueroa, Albert Ellis, who has been constantly being linked with the And also we have some we have had some other players in history also like Jerry vanstone. Armando Rivera who is the captain of Indira is very beloved in Honduras. And we’re we’re trying to bring in more players because definitely the level is better. And that only helps our soccer and their national team.

Yes, I totally forgot about about Liga MX you know, guys soccer is so huge. There’s leagues everywhere, and it’s like 24, seven all year long. What percentage of the hundred national team plays in the Mexican league?

Fernando Ulloa
Actually, as of right now, we have Daniel Mundo now. We just went there, and I’m not sure if there’s anybody else like being one of the big teams but he was a former player from what that was one of the big teams over there in in under us and now he’s playing Mexico.

Yeah, well,

yeah, that’s that’s a great league. And, and again, it’s It’s different but I do believe in the area and CONCACAF the league iMac is is the top one right now

yeah with the with like with Liga MX I believe they put a limit on foreign players. So it’s not as easy for anyone to go into play and they kind of focus on the local and domestic players MLS do they want to do that in MLS? I think but I think it’s not as

Fernando Ulloa
actually the MLS Oh, maybe not I’m foreign players. But do I know if you’re if you’re familiar with the franchise players?

dp Oh, you know, every team has, they have a of course they have a salary cap. That’s another thing that we’ll manage here and maybe one of my points of why the MLS is struggling a little bit. I mean, you can only spend so much money on your roster, and you only have three slots to bring in, you know, franchise players. So we’re talking web we’re talking about be a little caca nanny. You name it. It’s Latin Ibrahimovic, chicharito Nando’s, this type of players that definitely add a lot not just to their team, speaking you know, technically and when speaking about soccer, but also in the in the marketing area, they get a lot and they bring more fans, they bring in more money and they make the sport even better and hopefully more enjoyable,

even even for like the CONCACAF which is the regional conference of South America Caribbean, and also like Central America, that the MLS has brought a lot of opportunities for CONCACAF countries to come into the league and become better. That’s why for 2018 was a testimonial of that. A lot of the CONCACAF teams have, you know, reach to the USA level USA did not qualify to the World Cup. But you, you were seeing some new teams like Panama, I’m going in, and it’s because of the MLS opportunity To play at a good decent level, it’s not European level yet. But it brings the opportunity for them and also brings a lot of strength towards like their national team rather than you know, but it’s a whole nother podcast to talk about tell us a tell us a little bit about your podcast. Well, league z is cover soccer leagues guys there’s like about like 80 of them. But what Pacific leagues Do you guys really cover?

Fernando Ulloa
Well, right now it has been kind of a struggle with everything that’s been going on football stop for a while. We try to manage to keep it going. But we mainly cover of course in duras MLS. We got again, as I told you before, we got people in bedroo in Mexico and Germany in Honduras, myself, I’m here in the States. So we we cover all of those leaks, and we also try to cover any special events. Definitely the Champions League, you know, the top the top leagues are of course their Premier League, the La Liga You got the Bundesliga you got the city you got Ligue one and France and those would be your top ones and of course I’m throws MLS right now MLS I believe it’s a novelty because of their their new format they just pulled out right now.

Yeah, which two clubs that I’ve pulled out this past week Nashville and also Dallas yeah Dallas FC so it should be quite interesting kind of reshuffling but they had to get this tournament going because a lot of these clubs and players need money you know just just to survive for like for like you know for like the last year at least. So we’ll definitely keep an eye on that for like the next couple of weeks the tournament will be out throughout this month and I guess through August as well. The UCL draw the Champions League, this is the most important tournament I would say after the World Cup. This is the the highest league worldwide when it clubs soccer. The best clubs from each league like let’s say like the Premier League, which is England, France as in Ligue one, Spain La Liga and so I’m playing an all in one League, of course, they got 80 games or hundred plus games a year. But this is like the Super Bowl when it comes to Europe. This is where if you win this, you’re the best in Europe and possibly the best in the world. And this morning, we had the draw early this morning around 6am. Eastern, and we’re going to go through it with Fernando and see what your thoughts are, will give we’ll ask you your general thoughts and then we’ll go on for like each round and see what your What do you think about it. So what was your first initial thoughts when you saw the final job?

Fernando Ulloa
Actually, I got a happy I got excited First of all, because the tournament is going to happen. And secondly, I believe the fixtures itself if they go a certain way, they’re going to be pretty He’ll be interesting to see. And of course right now I’m talking from my heart cuz it’s gonna be a nice clash if Juba with Cristiano Ronaldo and drama you make it, you know, to the next round and face each other. Other than that I believe we’re going to have some great games Bayern v. Chelsea right now. That’s Barcelona, Napoli. It’s part of the games that have to be played yet and part of the fixture in Juventus and beyond, and then Man City, Andhra Murray, which is going to be one of the best games together with Barcelona. And as for the fixtures again, I mean, all the teams that you got left right now our top teams, so I guess the underdogs probably going to be Leon and Napoli and Chelsea. But when you’re at this level in the competition, you’re there because you have a great team. You’re there because you’ve earned it. And most importantly of all, it’s because you have good soccer, you’re playing well and it’s good to fight till the very last minute from every team.

Now, let me explain to everyone the draw happens where they draw a bunch of lottery numbers for your team and they mix it up a little bit. The Champions League, the round of 16 was finishing in March. Was it all completed by March or like they still had to play some like a few more games to complete that round for August?

Fernando Ulloa
Yeah, no, it wasn’t yet completed. Again, the last they played only the first leg. So for Juventus in the on the on one the first leg one No, and then Manchester City, one beat dramedy to one Byron versus Chelsea, Byron, one three now and then Barcelona tied one to one with Napoli. We’re going to see the second leg happening. It’s going to take place Fridays August 7, Juventus vs. Leonean Man City versus Real Madrid and then on Saturday, I guess a we’re gonna have Byron v Chelsea and Barcelona vs. NET So after those are done and that’s why I don’t know if you if you have the fixtures

Okay, yeah so so the way it’s gonna work out is the winner between dry muddy and Man City will play Juventus or the owner whoever passes and same thing goes for Barcelona vs Napoli and Bayern v Chelsea.

Oh god and how about like the RB let’s say and athletic go and Atlanta and Paris. What does that happen between those two games?

Fernando Ulloa
Okay, so Liverpool got eliminated by Atletico and PR use eliminated hormones. So those guys already in the next round and just waiting for

Oh, make sense. Okay, perfect. Okay, so we’ll go down through projections you say yours and then I say mine. Let’s first start with Man City Real Madrid. Of course Man City has Why do LA and Madrid has it died, where Ella is pressured to win this Champions League because that’s what he’s missing. trophy in this trophy case. What do you think about this matchup?

Fernando Ulloa
I think it’s it’s gonna be a very tough match. Especially because what you said when you have a coach like Pep Guardiola is very tactical. He’s very smart. He’s played around Madrid many times. And not just that, regarding the financial fair play going on mess going on with Ben city. This might be their last Champions League in a couple years, depending on on what the results say at the end. I’m sure they’re gonna appeal. But other than that on the RSI you have seen a DNC Dan, which has been quite of a novelty for me and we said it many times in our podcast, because he’s he’s not sticking to a certain type of formation or plate. He studies his rivals in every every match. He pulls out a different team, a different roster, and he looks where his weaknesses are. And he definitely strengthened them and you can see that in the last stretch of La Liga right now. Yeah, he’s getting all over. His point and he’s doing a great job. So Manson is not going to have it easy. But they do have the upper hand right now as they want to the one on their feathers like,

yeah, and of course, looking at Real Madrid they’re on fire right now. I’ve been seeing some a few matches this past month and Benzema hasn’t aged a bit. He’s looking good. A lot of these players are healthy. They had a three month break, which is never, never heard of in the world of soccer is usually two weeks is like the maximum you get a break. So I think obviously a man city is well is on a roll. I do like Real Madrid. To be honest. I think they have the players that got the caliber that Gods is on. main city has talent. But I don’t know it’s just feels like Madrid has they’re on a roll right now. They’re, they’re about to

Fernando Ulloa
agree with that. I mean, Emily right now is a very solid team defensively, defensively, they’re really solid. They know how to have the ball. Right now and they’re I mean they attack with their whole team you can see he said he would have Amazon under under you know attacking you can see both wingers might have said low and carbohydrate. It’s they play us a block. So it’s very hard to get through the team, especially when you have defenders like vamos but on Marcelo Mandy, you have gotten behind on the other side you have midfielders like kasimir gross mileage, who are playing their best and right now as of right now, I believe they are the strongest team.

So who you got, what is your final prediction who is gonna win between Man City and Real Madrid.

Fernando Ulloa
Again, a little bit of my heart is gonna play out here, but a big objective and watching the games this far. I’m confident that Rama is going to turn over though the result and they’re going to make it through.

I’m going to choose Real Madrid as well. I like what I do love his tactics. I’m a Liverpool fan. So I’m a little partial Towards Real Madrid so it is what is an Amazon fan as well. Let’s go on to the next one Juventus Ronaldo vs Li own Juventus I believe they lost the crucial match not too long ago. What do you think about this matchup?

Fernando Ulloa
Juventus was doing well. Leona has a very interesting team has some very young players that make a difference. And you went to they have a great team. They have many players on the roster. They have me through Champions League Cristiano Ronaldo, which plays a huge factor in this game so you can ask a typical mid row or several other teams that have been left out by Cristiano Of course by the whole team but what I mean is Cristiano is a beast and he’s gonna go there and make goals however I’m gonna I’m not sure if salaries manager salary formation or his gameplay is the best. But for this one based on XP on the team, they on the players I’m gonna say goodbye. To this favorite one because they have Cristiano and two because I believe their roster is much more deep and they they have more experienced players as well. I agree with you I’ll pick your Ventus isn’t the Douglas Kosta with Juventus? Yeah, that is correct. The Douglas Costa has made some great plays. He’s a great player. As you know, Brazil has so many great players. And this one does make the difference also you have Alexandra you have a really nice midfield with peonage you have meant Tweedy you have an IBO now who just scored a wonderful last week. I am with Fernando. I’ll pick Juventus as well, our be let’s fake versus Atletico Madrid. My Spanish friend was telling me that Politico has a good clear path in the final. What are your thoughts over this match?

Fernando Ulloa
I think Atletico is the favorite. They’ve played a great championship. I mean, they’re strong, they’re solid and they have a lot of intensity. Also, they have CML and a Diego Scipione who has been proven to be very intense. Life League, on the other hand has, again, they’re playing in one of the leaks out it’s probably not as competitive as Leah, but they have great players. You got Tim Warner and you know you got Campbell you got several other players are gonna make a huge effort. But I do believe that at the ethical has the upper hand in this one as well.

Santiago Leon
Yeah. Obviously I like well, we’ll probably talk about this towards the end of the show because we’ll like we’ll be saying sorsa which teams have a good path to the final and maybe winning, but we’ll talk about that a little bit later. Barcelona Napoli, they’re not. They’re not foreign to each other, they face each other in the past. Barcelona is at second in La Liga Of course, so they’re kind of catching up. messy. There’s been rumors of him possibly leaving next season, or actually, yeah, next season after next season. What do you think about this matchup?

Fernando Ulloa
Well, I think it’s, it’s one of the most interesting matches. Again, one you have a messy on one side, and a lot of great players on the roster. However, they have not been performing to their top level. That’s that’s been seen and it’s been critiqued all over the world. Because when you have players of that level you expected you know better results. They have not been performing they have changed their coach right now they started with a bad day now they have a guess at the end which is trying to bring back their their their football, but they’re still struggling as in the other hand you have Napoli that’s fresh that has been playing really well has great players such as insignia that I met and Coulibaly. You have tequila Sano from Mexico. He’s not playing that much right now but he has made some great plays. He’s a great danger. So for this one as of right now, I think Napoli is the favorite. But a mean again, when you’re at this level in Champions League, you go there you have to play 90 minutes. There are no favorites, you can’t make one mistake. And sadly for Napoli you got Leonel Messi on the other side, so it’s gonna be a tough one. I can put a winner on it right now. But I would say probably probably Barcelona because of the players they have, but it could be very possible if not most likely that Napoli is going to give the surprise and yes next round.

Yeah, like Napoli could be a surprise on this one. They’re a dark horse. I’ve been hearing that for a bit. So we’ll see what happens. I pick Barcelona, they do have the experience. They do have the talent. Napoli has talent. I’ve seen it. I’ve actually saw them last July. But I’m gonna pick Barcelona on this one. You can’t underestimate messy and of course this is too early for him to get knocked out of the round of course keep in mind guys this is a one off there’s no two leg matches. This is one off this is World Cup. This will be like a World Cup dude. You know, to be honest. Another match Bayern Munich who just won the Bundesliga is Chelsea, who is honored Run right now. And a Chelsea that has the American Christian police which was which is having a fantastic month of July in June. Fernando What do you think about this matchup? Because it seems like this might be the best one besides main city versus Real Madrid?

Fernando Ulloa
Oh, actually um I would say Napoli, Barcelona and city remedy would be like the top two. Okay. So yeah, okay. But because you have Byron manage that. It’s a great team. I mean, they they just want the Bundesliga and poco which is like their, their other cop. They’re the cup. So they’re on fire. They have been on fire for the last I believe nine seasons now have been the reigning champions so that’s great for them. Chelsea, on the other hand, is a very young team. As you mentioned, you have names like Christian Coolidge, you have a Tammy Abraham, you have Mason mount and some other like fresh new players that are definitely on fire, specifically Christian policy. And I know that’s great right now for the states. But that guy has been on fire for a while and he’s proving it so bad. He was injured for a bit. So again, Chelsea right now, by the hand of Frank Lampard, they’re doing a great job, you’re starting to pick up momentum. And that’s going to be great right now, because that many teams are they’re not having the minutes playing right now because of the whole situation. So when you’re starting to grab momentum, that’s very good. But I do believe Byron is the favorite one, the past leg of three nodes, so it’s the aggregate it’s on their favor, and also the experience and the players are on their favor. It’s it’s going to be really interesting to see what Chelsea’s what Frank Lampard shelties, could bring to the game,

and also to name a few players. They do have Robert Lewandowski for Bayern Munich and he’s been having a fantastic summer so far. Of course, absolutely. Continue on lira sign a but this team is pretty talented. I think they’re they want to make a good run for the Champions League. I’m gonna pick Bayern as well. I think Fernando convinced me that Chelsea’s is a bit young. I’ve seen them play these past couple weeks. So good. But I think Bayern Munich we’ll have that experience. Come in. And of course, I’m a ballistics fan. So we’ll see how he does. And finally, Atlanta vs. php. PHP is another team that my friend was telling me about, that they might have good run for this for the Champions League. Fernando, what do you think about this matchup?

Fernando Ulloa
Well, um, I believe PSG? Well, it’s the thing about soccer, sometimes we have personalities, and PSG definitely has them. You got name art, which can change the game in in a second. You got in Bop it. I can also change the game in a second. You got the Maria, you got Kevin, you gotta get it. You got a solid defense with murkiness and so it’s good. Gonna be a it’s gonna be a really tough match because on the other hand you have in Atlanta with an alias each that has been scoring many goals many goals they beat Valencia for three and I believe they have won a couple city out tournaments like seven they’re a strong team and I do believe uh of course PSG because of the name says the favorite, but I believe this is going to be a really tough game, and everybody should be aware of Atlanta and maybe why not they give this prize. But as for favorites, I’m going to put my my pennies on PSG for this one, which I believe I

had a major win last week against Napoli to nil. I think someone was telling me that was a big match a big win for them. I’m gonna go with PSG Of course they got talent and, and I’ve been here like like, you know, this might be the year for them. But of course we’ll definitely see what happens. So Fernando and I Like I have all these teams, I know that it’s this kind of little early to predict there but which team is looking good? Like, which two teams are looking good to go to the final? And then who win it?

Fernando Ulloa
Okay. Oh, yeah, again, as you said, it’s very rarely to be speaking about right now. But I think if Real Madrid pools are going past Man City, there are really really big to be the runner ups. One of the runner ups and also after that, I believe the ethical malady also has a big chance because they’ve been playing solid. They’re a great team and it’s really hard team to play with. And Bayern Munich is also one of the favorites. So I’d say for me, I’m gonna go with Bayern Atletico Madrid And I’m gonna put remedies in there as well, because uh, not just because I’m a remedy fan, not just because they’re like the reigning champions in this tournament, but because they’re a great level right now. Just speaking about soccer itself, and they’re really really in it right now. So I do believe Bayern Atletico anti-malarial are the possible contenders. And of course you can’t leave out Barcelona. I mean, you have a great team, you have Leonel Messi you have what is the best goalkeeper for me and Martin today thursday again, so if they managed to get a hold of them, those are my four favorites that say

yes, I’ve been hearing Atletico a lot Why is let it go why makes them this year different? Of course they don’t have Grisman but what do you think this team we could go deep? Okay.

Fernando Ulloa
Well, first of all, As you can see, I don’t know if you saw the last game versus Liverpool. Liverpool was favorite. Of course, they’re they’re a great team. They’re doing a spectacular job in the Premier. And also they’re the reigning champions right now. So they did a great job. They did a solid job and they played the 90 minutes like it was the first one. You see them get a little bit tired, but they keep pushing, they attack the block. They all go back together as a blog. You got y’all Felix, you got the Acosta you got Murata soul. You got no Black Widow was also one of the best goalkeepers right now. So position by position. They’re really solid team also Party Party has been playing some great matches. So when you get all of those players together, they have been playing for a while together. They just have some a couple new additions, and you have Diego’s email on there, which has been pushing them for a while. They have been so close to glory and have not been able to make it. So if you see their gameplay right now, I do believe they’re very strong contender, and it’s a Champions League and as I said earlier, it’s going to be a one game knockout. So it’s nothing’s written down. Anything can happen in those 90 minutes. And if somebody can can make great match, it’s going to be a 30 day money for sure.

They go see my own a has been talked about a lot for these past couple years. He definitely out coach Liverpool. What’s up with his tactics? He’s I mean, I’ve been hearing a lot of comparisons to Mourinho. But is he a good coach? Is it because he’s very be? Would you say that he plays mind games a lot, but what makes him so special?

Fernando Ulloa
I think you can, you can. What makes him so special for you is his intensity, his well his strength. Also he’s a leader. If you go back in and you see him assets Soccer player, you can see the type of person Diego simeone is, he’s always giving 200% on the field. And that’s something that he’s been able to transmit to his players. So when you have that, and you had talent, and then you had preparation, then you have a great team. There. We’ll see Melanie is a great cat candidate. It’s a great coach. And the only thing that he’s had against in the past years in Champions League is he probably played the best Real Madrid in years. And sometimes you can be a really good soccer team, no matter what you do, but he’s been doing great. He’s a great coach. And I do believe his intensity and leadership, as well as his way of games and closing those paces where where the opposing team will attack is what makes him such a great team. And that’s my analysis on the AC Milan.

Even after Greece man, he still has it. So that’s very good, that shows his strengths. And I do agree with you. So you name three runner ups, Bayern Munich athletico Madrid and Real Madrid who would win it from those three.

Um, that’s, that’s a tough one. Oh, but today, I don’t want to say, well that’s a that’s a really tough one. But I would say it’s between the elmarie environment and
