Episode #282: NFL Sunday Week 4 Recap

NFL Shuffle has happened in the past week, but the NFL carries on. Patriots and Chiefs was moved to Monday night sharing a doubleheader with Falcons at Packers.

NFL Week 4 Recap

VIKINGS 31, TEXANS 23
Dalvin Cook rushed for 130 yards and two touchdowns on 27 carries and Adam Thielen had eight catches for 114 yards and a touchdown in the narrow win to snap the Vikings’ winless streak. The Texans moved to 0-4 despite Deshaun Watson throwing for 300 yards and two touchdowns.

PANTHERS 31, CARDINALS 21
The Cardinals’ bubble burst in their loss to the Panthers. Teddy Bridgewater had 276 passing yards and two touchdowns in the win. Kyler Murray had three touchdown passes but only 133 passing yards on 24 completions. The lack of production resulted in Carolina’s second victory of the season.

RAVENS 31, WASHINGTON 17
Lamar Jackson had a long rushing touchdown and two passing touchdowns in the victory. Dwayne Haskins had 314 passing yards but no touchdown passes in the loss. The Ravens moved to 3-1 and Washington fell to 1-3.

It took Lamar Jackson just 35 games to reach 5,000 passing and 2,000 rushing yards, breaking Michael Vick’s record (39 games).

Buccaneers 38, Chargers 31: Tom Brady passed Warren Moon (40 years, 342 days) as the oldest player with five passing TDs in a single game (43 years, 62 days).

Tom Brady threw five touchdown passes and led the Buccaneers on a comeback down 24-7 to beat the Chargers. Justin Herbert had a good performance but made one mistake late in the game. He had three touchdown passes and 290 passing yards.

Seahawks 31, Dolphins 23: Russell Wilson threw two more TDs to reach 16 on the year, tying Peyton Manning (2013) for the most through four games.
Bills 30, Raiders 23: With two touchdowns, Derek Carr (151 TD) passed Ken Stabler (150) for the most in Raiders history.

The Seahawks hung on to beat the Dolphins on Sunday, 31-23. Russell Wilson continued his MVP case finishing with 360 passing yards and two touchdown passes. DK Metcalf had 106 receiving yards. Ryan Fitzpatrick had 315 passing yards but also had two interceptions – one to Shaquill Griffin and the other to Ryan Neal.

SAINTS 35, LIONS 29
The Saints were down most of their starters but overcame it with a victory over the Lions. Latavious Murray had two rushing touchdowns and Tre’Quan Smith had two touchdown catches in the win.

The Lions led 14-0, meaning they’ve now lost a record six consecutive games in which they led by 10+ points.

Browns 49, Cowboys 38: Dak Prescott (1,690 yards) passed Kurt Warner (1,557 yards in 2000) for the most passing yards through four games in NFL history.

The Browns looked real good Sunday afternoon. Odell Beckham Jr. led the way with three total touchdowns in the game and helped seal the win over the Cowboys. Dak Prescott had 502 passing yards and still managed to lose.

Bengals 33, Jaguars 25: Joe Burrow got his first win and also became the first rookie in NFL history to throw for 300+ yards in three straight games.

Joe Burrow picked up his first career win as the Bengals defeated the Jaguars on Sunday. Burrow finished with 300 passing yards and a touchdown pass to Joe Mixon. He became the first rookie to have three consecutive games of 300 or more passing yards. Gardner Minshew II impressed with 351 passing yards and two touchdown passes – both to D.J. Chark who didn’t play against the Dolphins in Week 3.

BILLS 30, RAIDERS 23
The Bills remained undefeated with a close victory over the Raiders. Josh Allen had two touchdown passes and 288 passing yards. Derek Carr and Darren Waller both fumbled the ball in the game. Carr finished with 311 passing yards and two touchdowns. Waller led in receiving with nine catches for 88 yards.

COLTS 19, BEARS 11
The offense couldn’t get a jolt even with Nick Foles starting for the Bears. Chicago fell to the Colts, 19-11. Philip Rivers had an early touchdown pass to Mo Alie-Cox which proved to be the difference in the game. Foles’ late touchdown pass to Allen Robinson was moot. Robinson had seven catches for 101 yards.

RAMS 17, GIANTS 9
The Rams were the only team that decided to play offense at SoFi Stadium on Sunday. A late touchdown pass from Jared Goff to Cooper Kupp was the difference. Goff had 200 passing yards. Giants kicker Graham Gano was responsible for all of the Giants’ points.

EAGLES 25, 49ERS 20
The Eagles picked up their first win of the season thanks to a late touchdown pass from Carson Wentz to Travis Fulgham and then a Pick Six from 49ers quarterback C.J. Beathard to the Eagles’ Alex Singleton. The two scores put Philadelphia over the top and into first place in the NFC East.

It’s crazy. I guess it was inevitable. Everything was going fine. Nobody was testing positive and then all of a sudden it just hits in the Titans got more and more players testing positive and they first they decided to postpone it till Monday or Tuesday. Then they said the postpone later in the season. So which I which I sounds like was the right call because more and more players tested positive. So we are I guess that’s the reality of this season. And you know, maybe maybe teams will take it seriously. Now maybe they’ll nip it in the bud. And there won’t be any more problems. But let’s hope

Yeah, the NBA and the NFLPA are investigating what happened at the Tennessee facilities and of course, they saw some some errors, but hopefully they’ll take some series is this after that this morning. The whole team will have the whole team but uh, this morning there were negative tests so no one knew more. No new positive so far. So so far, the buffalo game is still on

the Carolina Panthers defeated a surprise win against the Arizona Cardinals the Cardinals who are on paper. The best team in the NFC West were defeated by Terry Bridgewater had 200 as and the six passing yards and two touchdowns in the when Kyler Murray had three touchdown passes, but 133 passing yards on 24 completions. Good for him. He had his first rushing touchdown since that horrible knee injury and the surgery. So, you know, the knock on Teddy Bridgewater is he’s a system quarterback. It was Brady versus Herbert Herbert was two years old when Brady won his first championship Superbowl.

I think right now the top three teams in the AFC are the Chiefs the bills, and the Ravens sorry, Steelers are on the outside looking in but honorable mention fourth place automatic Yeah, yeah. Of course. I’m just shocked about the bills. I mean, you know, we knew their defense was good but God stefon Diggs best best offseason acquisition by a mile.

And of course, something we’ll definitely keep looking at Colts and bears this game was moved towards a four o’clock window. When the KC and England game were was postpone the Colts name with quarterback Phil rivers defeated the bears 1911 I thought the bears will be different with Nick foles but it feels like it’s didn’t do well with the Colts.

I saw a little bit of it. It’s amazing that the the giants were still in it. They were trailing 10 to nine in the fourth quarter. And they almost tied it up they were driving late in the game but an interception killed that deep in Rams territory. There was a play. This is crazy. They the Giants ran a pass play where none of but all of the wide receivers thought it was a running play so they run blocked. Not one wide receiver went out for a for a up on a pattern on a pass play.

The 40 Niners are in trouble. They’re still reeling from a lot of injuries. He’s and the defense of the Eagles really bailed them out here Yeah, it’s once looked a little bit better but the Eagles are still bad although I think the NFC East is so bad I think they’re on top of the division with a one two and one record. I can’t wait next week the Eagles play the Steelers those are going to destroy them

Oh boy, I have to think that the Cowboys are gonna pull it together I think but I think it’s I think it’s going to be one of those divisions where it’s just going to be like the winners gonna be eight and eight or nine and seven or something like that. It’s probably going to be a race between the eagles and the Cowboys. The giants are a mess a loss Barkley and Washington is is their their big mess to think about Washington is Haskins is probably gonna be not the starter anymore because he’s not Rivera’s guy. He was on a short leash. He’ll be gone.

No, but I like what they were doing with Jalen hertz. They did have him in some plays. They need to put Jalen hertz in there. That does not speak well of the Eagles but let Jalen hertz do some like you know special packages and stuff like that trick plays you know stuff like that.

The bills are in first place in the Patriots will play tonight against Kansas City the dolphins in the Jets jets our own for the Jets are gonna tank for Trevor Lawrence.

Yes, the N and AFC North Steelers are still on top they’re undefeated ravens three and one Browns three and one Bengals one to one. The Browns team has become a forest for the AFC North so it’s not going to be easy for the Steelers yet.

We’ll see if the Browns are good for them. You won you won three games you know with the Browns you never know. The Browns is miles Garrett is playing some amazing ball. He might be a candidate for Defensive Player of the Year.

Definitely a candidate to definitely as a candidate for that. For AFC south for the tight ends called jaguars and the Texans It feels like the Jaguars are not on a good position but it could be a Titans or Colts you know

we’ll see how long the Colts can hold on. I mean the Titans are looking really good. You know we were robbed of that I think Titans and Steelers this weekend would have been a great matchup but they’ll play later on so we’ll see. I’m excited about the Jaguars I don’t think they’re gonna win much but they’re not as pathetic as we thought they would be

AFC south of course cheese Raiders and chargers and Broncos. It looks like the Raiders might take that second place in the AFC West. NFC East as we spoke before, it could be cowboys and Eagles winning this division. NFC North It feels like it’s gonna be a Packers division even the little though the bears are three in one but it seems like it’s like a Packers division this year.

packers are gonna run away with it. They’re in the top five of teams right now in the NFL. They are looking great. You know, Vikings are a huge disappointment. And the lions as I said fire their stupid coach and the bears are Yeah, that’s it’s misleading that they’re three in one.

Exactly. And the NFC South. I don’t know about you but the Buccaneers are jealous early. Are they gonna maintain that first place?

Yeah, I think they’re figuring it out. I think they’re, they’re figuring it out with a tom brady is is working out with the Bucs and they’re just going to get better as they learn to gel and work things out. So The Saints gotta keep up. I think there’s gonna be a big two way race between the Bucs and the saints. And it’s gonna be good. You know,

Yeah, and I believe they lost oj Howard. Which, Yeah, a little bit of a loss. He’s been a little bit disappointing. But still, I mean, they have they have a Chrono tight ends on that team.

Yeah. And definitely a lot of weapons in that team. And of course, a fournette is out as well. I think for a few weeks. I don’t think he’s out that long.

Yeah, yeah, we’ll see. You know, a lot of a lot of weapons on that team that if they could get everybody healthy, especially got Chris Godwin, he who was out this week with a concussion. And, uh, you know, Evan, so we haven’t seen the Bucs at full power yet. So imagine what Tom Brady’s gonna be like with all of his weapons at full power is going to be something

plus a great defense. So he has a full squad there. So definitely looking good for the Buccaneers, of course, NFC South, the tightest conference, I believe Seahawks for no Rams three and one for Niners. two and two Cardinals two and two, it’s going to be raised to the end. tell you why.

You’re right. I think this is the toughest division in football. You know, Cardinals, not sure if they’re legit or not. But you know, the Cardinals being the quote unquote, worst team in the division. That means that’s a very strong division. Seahawks looking amazing Rams trying to keep up in the 40 Niners a good two if they could get healthy. So yes, very tough division.

Definitely the NFL is shaping up, hopefully no more cases of COVID. So things could be a healthy schedule, continual schedule, and and hopefully Tennessee will get their things together. And we’ll see how the Patriots do which this is our next segment of the show. predictions are there is a doubleheader Monday Night Football. Yes, we see some double headers usually at the beginning of the season, but tonight is definitely within the season. patriots at chiefs, no Cam Newton and Joe but what do you think’s gonna happen?

It’s a shame. I would have liked to have seen what the Patriots would have done with Cam Newton. I think that’s also a fascinating story. I think he’s doing very well with the Patriots. So I mean, it’s going to be an easy win for the Chiefs without cam. Yeah, and I mean, you know, right now the Patriots are also a in a talk for at least top 10 in the NFL.

So fans are complaining that that is too early of a bye week didn’t really need one. Now they’re gonna have to play 13 straight games.
