I listen and reflect on his day. Okay. Heisman. Now, I’m on my pick for the highest me is devante Smith. He’s the wide receiver who put in so much work. But before that was a vontae Smith. That was another great receiver who want to spy you know what I’m talking about? Mr. I’ma catch it behind your back. I don’t care what kind of coverage you got on me. My wall. Unknown Speaker 2:54
Just man. We
Justin Riley 2:55
happy to have you. Yes, sir.
Marvin Constant 2:58
Before we go any further last week when we went to Boise last week we was on Kevin Norwood. And some guy just had the best hands he’s ever seen in Alabama. I said I dispute that he gets no Bob Hi. Nobody back.
Unknown Speaker 3:18
No no, I
Justin Riley 3:20
don’t have a Daniel Moore either. I was wrong.
Unknown Speaker 3:27
I’m sorry.
Unknown Speaker 3:28
You can add you can ask some my kids man when the ball comes my way man. They they look they look at each other like man did man still got your food? I might be getting older. But
Unknown Speaker 3:42
let me ask about that man. What kind of reaction
Unknown Speaker 3:44
in the rain?
Justin Riley 3:47
What kind of reaction do your kids give you man? No one you know about your background? And, of course, everything you’re associated with. You got the Daniel Moore painting. This goes on and on. What kind of kind of reaction do you get?
Unknown Speaker 3:59
Well, I mean, of course, when I when I first got there, man, you know, the kids. A lot of the kids man. They don’t they didn’t know who I was, unless their parents told them because a lot of the kids that I coach couldn’t born till 2005 or 2006. So if they knew is because their parents told them and you know, the parents found out I was you know, I was gonna be the teacher and they probably told him I told him a little bit about me, but you know, just just being out there and just, you know, some of the things that you know, ball could be coming my way I’m throwing throwing routes to them and they throw the ball back and they throw out how my head and you know, just my reaction is to reach back and catch it. And then you know, they just, you know, look at each other and just laugh I’m like, Man, this dude, this dude still got it. Still, I still got these hands, man. You know, just being out there and and working with the kids man. They you know, they know i mean well and I want to see the best one.
Justin Riley 4:58
I want to hear more about the other A coach, a coach will get back to you as a player and whatnot and talk about everything that’s going on. But I don’t know about, you know, Coach pro throw, What was he like,
Unknown Speaker 5:09
oh man, just a really, it’s more about, it’s more than, than just the football aspect of me, I try to be more of a mentor. Because I know a lot of kids, you know, especially at the school that I’m at, now, a lot of them grew up the way I grew up, man, single parent home, stuff like that. So I try to be, I try to see where they’re coming from, and try to be there to give them advice, if they need it, because, you know, a lot of them, they’ll come to me and ask me for advice about certain things. And, you know, I just, you know, I try to give them life lessons. And not just, you know, not just focus on on the football aspect of it. Because there’s more to life than than just football.
Justin Riley 5:58
Yeah, no doubt. And that’s one of the main things that I enjoyed about being a coach when I was at home with middle and was, like you said, nowadays, it’s very rare to have a two parent home, and even the parents are there, they’re not quite there. So they really don’t have anyone to really spend time, you know, connecting with them and mentoring them. So you really are that mentor, you are the extra parent and for you know, for some maybe my pastor or just whatever role, you know, that that fulfill, so it’s a huge deal. And to me, that’s the most rewarding aspect of coaching.
Unknown Speaker 6:31
Oh, no, no, definitely. And I mean, and even on top of that, you know, sometimes, you know, I, you know, I do tend to share my faith with them, because I’m a big believer in big believer in God, and that things happen for a reason. And, you know, and I don’t try to force anything on anybody, you know, if they want to know, you know, know about, uh, you know, I tell them, you know, that, you know, my belief, because I know, in a lot of situations who got me out of situations that I’ve been in, so, you know, and I try to share with them and let them know that, you know, I am a believer, and, you know, a lot of them, you know, I have to you know, they respect you, you know, just for just for letting them know that. So, you know, like I said, I just try to be as positive as I can to them and be that, you know, some for some I’m the older brother, or you know that that adult trigger that adult figure that that’s there for them and, and can tell they can come and talk to about anything, man, I leave my door open for all of
Marvin Constant 7:30
it. You know, one of the things about it, though, a lot of people don’t understand, you went through the same thing that I went through, you know, when you talk about your faith, man, you got to pull every resource you have, right, you go through a situation like that. It’s you know, the injury itself is bad enough. When the surgeon doesn’t go the way it’s supposed to go down lingering effects that you got to deal with for years. And you I mean, because me personally, I’d have had five knee surgeries, and it was a four year ordeal for me. So, you know, you took everything I had in me to survive that, because there was a lot of dark days, man. So I understand what you said, when you talk about you got to have your faith, because that was the one thing in life, I will honestly say push me to my breaking point. And back then I mean, that the mental aspects of it is something that most people will never understand.
Unknown Speaker 8:21
Oh, yeah, def, I mean, it was in, in 2005, man from 2005 till about 2010 man, man probably a little bit later. I can’t, it’s been a long time, I can’t remember my last search, but I’ve had 12 surgeries. And when you have when you have that many surgeries, man, it’s just, you know, and a lot of was just to correct some things that wasn’t done in the beginning that wasn’t done right in the beginning. So, you know, it’s just when you go through stuff, like where you go through things like that, man, it’s, you have to have some kind of phase otherwise, you know, make it through, you’re gonna struggle because a lot of people in you know, in our situations that go through, you know, sports is is all you know, and then for you to have a catastrophic injury that, you know, really takes, you know, the one thing that you love the most away from a lot of people break down and then they go, you know, they struggle straight away and you don’t you don’t know what, you know, what, you know, how they’re gonna handle it, or how their life is gonna end. You know, a lot of people fall by the wayside in their life just becomes, you know, just adapt just downhill from there. But man for me, you know, I just decided to try to make you know, do the positive thing about it man and to graduate and use my story use, you know, use what I have, you know, just to try to inspire people try to motivate people. And, you know, it’s, it’s, it’s a pleasure when somebody comes up to you and says, Hey, man, I you know, I know your story. And then I just want you to know that you really inspire me Just to hear somebody say, it’s a blessing.
Marvin Constant 10:03
Yeah, you know, it takes so much mentally to get through that man. So you say, I wholeheartedly understand. But then five was brutal. You know, but you know, I’ll be honest with you, you know, I don’t talk about this much, but I’ll talk about it right now. The most difficult part of that whole ordeal for me was when I had my first surgery and things still weren’t going right. And people telling me that, Oh, well, that’s part of the process, you’re gonna have this and you’re gonna have that. And then six months later, I’m still having the same issues. And it’s like, y’all keep feeding me the same crap when I know something isn’t right. So I ended up having to go to my high school team. Dr. Shout out to bony bear No, man. And I told him, I said, Doc, just scope it man. Look in there. Tell me what’s going on. Because I know something. Right? The whole time. They tried to get me to go back to the team doctor. I’m like, Nah, man, I didn’t like touching me no more. So when he scraped my knee, my ACL is halfway test. My medium meniscus was still torn. My tickler Causeway was torn and hadn’t even been touched. You know, my patellar tendon wasn’t aligned properly. It was it was all bad man. I ended up having to go to Dr. Andrews and Dr. Kane in Birmingham, Dr. Kane, man, oh, my God, when I say that to save my life, man, because he went back in and redid everything. And honestly, man, I’ve been fine. After the two surgeries that he did on me. You know that it took to fix it, man. But before that, it was rough man. And I really had a lot of dark days. Because I’m walking with a limp. Nothing would go right. And the whole time they tried to tell me to go back to this man. Now we’ve been doing that no more See, had it not been an emergency surgery situation anyway, we want to do it anyway. But the fact they didn’t know if I had internal bleeding or if I had nerve damage, it was something that had to be done. Like, boom, like, you gotta do this. Because we don’t know if you don’t lose your late flight. Oh, man, we will. He would have never touched me from the start. So that was the most difficult part for me is the fact that after it’s over six months down the road, I still got people trying to tell me to go back into my this is normal pain. Not so I go and I get it scoped by my high school team. And they were so mad about that. I’m like, Why are y’all mad that I had an outside doctor looking at my leg. And the whole time they fussing at me. All I did was I gave them the pictures that Dr. Behringer gave me and I said, boom, you still gonna be mad now that you see that my surgery was was crap. You still don’t be mad at me that I went to outside doctor. And here’s the pitch as you can see for yourself.
Unknown Speaker 12:44
No, no doubt, man. I mean, that’s that’s kind of a little bit of what I went through to man. It’s just, you know, I’ve never been injured in football man. Until then, you know, I worst thing I’ve had was a high ankle sprain my senior year in high school. And, uh, you know, never been never been seriously injured, never had to sit out a game never had to sit out of practicing. For for that to happen the way it happened. And then, you know, I don’t I don’t know, I don’t know anything about, you know, surgeries and how they’re supposed to go. Nor did my mom or, you know, some anything like that. So, you know, I was kind of in the dark for a while about, you know, what the, the status of, you know, and they never told me if I was gonna be able to come back and play or not like, it wasn’t even discussed. Really, I guess they kind of just let me figure it out on my own. But you know, just being just being around and not hearing anything, but hearing people on the outside, saying, Oh, they didn’t do his surgery. Right. You know, they, you know, some some ain’t right about that, like just hearing people on the outside. That’s where, you know, my, my frustration came in that because like, you know, I, there’s a lot of stories I heard and I ain’t gonna, I’m not gonna discuss on here. But, man, it’s just, you know, just hearing that all in the beginning. was just kind of that was the frustrating part for me. So I definitely man, I definitely. We all on the same page. When it comes to that. Listen,
Marvin Constant 14:11
let me tell you, I’ll tell you though, this is this is the part that kills me the most. So they trying to tell me I’m gonna walk with a limp for the rest of my life. This is what the doctor said, I never run again. You notice that third, which is true after the job you did on me. After that? worked on me. 16 months later, I worked out for the Vikings at two feet deep drop the full six foot, man, listen, when I say I’m just glad that the issues in T town have been rectified. Right? Right.
Justin Riley 14:42
Let me ask you this. Of course, you know, overcoming was pretty huge, but during that time, who really poured life into you and really invested in you to help bring you out of that?
Unknown Speaker 14:53
Oh, well,
Unknown Speaker 14:54
I mean, number one, man. My mom was here. She actually came to the game. She was at the Florida game. My uncle came, my, my cousin’s came like, I had, I had a few tickets to that game. And she, and I wanted her to be at that game. And it’s crazy. It’s crazy that I wanted her to be at that game, even before the game, not knowing the type of game that I will have. Because, you know, I tell a lot of people that was the best and the worst game of my career. And for my mom to be at that game, like, you know, forget the injury, but for her to be in that game. And that moment, one of the loudest I’ve ever heard Brian, Dan, he still to this day, and for to see, for her to see me ball out the way I bought out. Like, it was like, I was happy that she was there at that moment. Now, the injury happened in the fourth quarter, and I know everything has to happen out there. But man, my mom, she was there for me every step of the way. You know, her prayers how strong she was. And that was really kind of, you know, the one person number one who helped me get through everything and me and my brother has been, you know, has been here with me since day one. Ever since the injury and he’s, you know, anything that I did when I was on crutches or anything on the mat. He was there for me. So that’s been a lot of people that’s, you know, the prayers and that’s been in my corner. My own receiver coach, Coach cheese coach, Charlotte Harbison. Man, he was there with the prayers he came to the hospital karasuma even to this day, I still talk to coach Xu he’ll call and check on me every now and then. And just like those people, man, they they they check in women even to this day, you know are still in my life you know, of course you know, I lost my mom. But you know, she’s still still with man spirit man and um, but those people man they just what they did and, and and how they were in my life after that. It’s kind of kind of helped push me through. Yeah,
Marvin Constant 17:00
to get me going. Hey, bro, bro. Let me tell you, sir, I’m glad you didn’t call me. Because I told you I’m on my way to pick you up to go take a trip and go see
some hands on. When I tell you, I worked out for the Vikings and I ran there for 640 Life was good. Time by sending me to NFL Europe. The dolphins bring me live. But I was back. No. I was so furious at him though for the years and the time that he calls me. Like dude. Don’t do the job.
Unknown Speaker 17:44
Yeah, you’re right. You’re right about that.
Marvin Constant 17:48
I mean, because I’ve been fine ever since that became like a shout out to LAO.
Justin Riley 17:56
Absolutely.
Unknown Speaker 17:59
Man, they’ve been you know, my last surgery man it was it was a big help to me Dr. Walters is the one that actually he did the procedure on on my on my ankle man and and it worked. It worked wonders you know just the range I got a little bit more of my range of motion back in it but you know, just you know for it to be that long and then to finally find somebody that you know, can do the right do that do it right this time.
Marvin Constant 18:29
Good luck checking that out. The Dr. Kane worked on. I played arena football for some years on that turf, which is basically see me I’ve never had to ice might need one time ever. To this day. My knees still does not swell up. When I say my that knee works better than my other one to this day. Man. Come on.
Justin Riley 18:51
You start to get a little fired up. And that’s a perfect segue to our favorite segment. Constant chaos brought to you by Milo’s who has one of the greatest food traditions since 1946. what this is all about allows Marvin to give us his unfiltered thoughts on issues surrounding Alabama or college football in general. What do you have for this this week? Marvin?
Marvin Constant 19:12
You know what? I was gonna talk about football. I was gonna talk about the chaos being the way Ohio State dominated Clemson after Dabo ranked them number 11 it topped out at Kraft but now that Alabama has such a crappy team doctor for all those years. That man butcher all us like we were lab rats. That man was down experiment with us and y’all let him do it. How can you as the greatest power on the planet in college football allow such an atrocity to happen when you know your team is not up to the job. You have a list of bodies that you have this number of surgeries that you did you no one knew what they should have been. But Chow allowed this to go on for all those years. I can go back to the early 90s. And tell you about people that this dude’s butchered. But Chow still allows us to go on for all those years. didn’t really take that long for y’all to figure out that hey, this ain’t to do we need working on the best athletes in the country. How do you have the best of everything? But you got a crappy team doctor who shouldn’t even be working on pit. I know people like this is okay. But I’m glad they came to their senses and they fixed
Justin Riley 20:33
Hey, things change we’re saving came around to so yeah, only the best period. But yeah, man, you’re absolutely right. Is atrocity. What happened to guys like y’all? I mean, guys that were destined for the NFL Hall of Fame. And
Marvin Constant 20:46
guys like us around here. Travis, can I can go I can give you a long list of people who have suffered under the nice for that dude.
Justin Riley 20:58
Well, you mentioned Clemson and what what happened to them this past weekend? No one saw that coming. That being said, Guys, do you think the playoff committee got the right?
Unknown Speaker 21:13
Say What now?
Justin Riley 21:16
I think leading up to this week, we all were saying the playoff committee did not get it right. We all gave a house a zero chance. And they showed us that, you know, we didn’t know what we’re talking about. And they cause chaos on Clemson. So I asked you after seeing what we saw on Saturday night? Did the playoff committee get the choices? Right for the top four?
Unknown Speaker 21:39
I think they did. I mean, no one can account for you can’t you can’t predict that Ohio State was gonna play as well as they play. Yeah, you know, that they’re, they’re a great team. You know, that they and you know, that they got, you know, a great quarterback and pieces around them. And they were also playing motivated, obviously, by the video that that their head coach posted. So, you know, you knew those guys were gonna play for him. You couldn’t, you know, of course, I thought Clemson would beat him, I thought it was gonna be a good game, close game, but I thought Clemson would beat him. And just for the game to be, you know, regardless to what the stats and all that stuff says the game still has to be played, those guys still got to go out there and execute and do their stuff. And, you know, on that night, man, Ohio State, those guys play, you know, that they came ready to play. And you know, it did a great job and doing what they did. So, I mean, you know, the only and I knew they were going to put Notre Dame back in. Just because I figured that it they wouldn’t want to see Alabama beat up on Texas a&m again. And and as far as like, you know, just the draw that Notre Dame would, you know, brings, I felt like they will put them back in that number four, but I also knew what would happen, you know, in that game, so I think they got it right. Of course you can’t. You can’t try to predict what would happen in those games.
Marvin Constant 23:11
Let me interject, they got it. They got it wrong. Okay. All right. So again, you put what Justin? Did I not tell you last week, I would much rather play Notre Dame. Ohio State. I told you you want to play Ohio. No. They won’t be awesome. Here’s the thing. The committee got it wrong because you take these two trash teams from the trash ACC and try to say that they’re that good. The ACC is trash. So how you gonna take the two top trash teams? It’s like, Okay, you got a trash can for the old food. You’re gonna say I’m gonna eat the old half eaten pizza and honeybun off the top. Are you just gonna go buy some milk? You’re just gonna go buy some cuz it’s all trash. It’s ACC. It’s been trashed. clemson has usually been the cream of the crop in the trash. They don’t play. Nobody saw a freshman in the year. Now you played a real team. You beat no loss. Now here’s the thing. Notre Dame even no trash. So basically, the two teams from the ACC got blown out. Right? Because again, they just so who should have been there?
Justin Riley 24:27
Yeah, I would imagine. Today who would
Unknown Speaker 24:33
tell me who Marvel would have put in there?
Marvin Constant 24:35
Me You had a couple of my homeboys? Listen, man, I get it. You know, the options were slim, who to put in now. I get it. I get it. I get it. But at some point, it shouldn’t have been both of those trash teams. And because I mean, it’s a blackout in the ACC Yeah, you got two teams in, but they both got blown out. So what does that really say about the strength of your conference? Now, Texas a&m, who did Texas a&m play? North Carolina another track team from ACC beat them what 4128 I had a better game with with Texas a&m
Unknown Speaker 25:21
then Yep, I agree with that.
Justin Riley 25:27
also played without several players to say a&m was struggling against North Carolina. Manas was a two receivers and both those tailbacks that are going through and then yeah, so they had a lot of their does team out is that for the defense was still a struggle with them for a good portion of that game.
Unknown Speaker 25:45
Dustin, don’t be trying to discredit.
Justin Riley 25:52
They’re not I’m just saying is that if ad buy looked bad, as they say never struggle against a team that had a bunch of a bunch of opt out.
Marvin Constant 25:59
Yes. Didn’t you’re trying to discredit my point about the ACC being trashed right now. Okay. But that’s fine. That’s cool. But yeah, bottom line, they let him in. They both got their butts handed to them. So now what can you really say that they got it right? When two and three and four got killed? I mean, two and four.
Unknown Speaker 26:22
Did they only get so so tell me this damn. Before you saw those blowouts without you to answer this honestly, before you saw those blowouts? Would you still be saying they got it wrong?
Justin Riley 26:34
Yep. Hey, that is the past two weeks. Yeah.
Marvin Constant 26:39
I did not tell you last week. You do not want to play Ohio State right now. Have I not been telling you that? Have I not been saying that Notre Dame is trash. And I told you Ohio State was going to give Clemson they didn’t hand him they booked him you go on a platter. That not been Am I not been telling y’all
Justin Riley 26:56
see, I didn’t see just because Ohio State has such a hard time this season. Because they play a game. And then they had to sit out two games because the COVID they play a game then they had to sell another game because the code was so it was start stop, start stop. They never could quite get into a rhythm. So we didn’t see though how state it was on this past Saturday, we saw a team still trying to find themselves. So that’s
Marvin Constant 27:18
about it. Yeah, they were still trying to find themselves but also seen Clemson I seen Clemson lose to an inferior Notre Dame team. I get it. Trevor Lawrence didn’t play. But that’s still that same week, Notre Dame team that they love to, you know, even with a backup quarterback, you should have beat them. The fact that Notre Dame was able to run the ball down their throat the first time around. I mean, it was ugly. And then the second time that they played, it was still a closed game. So it’s like you still got the trash plan the trash. At what point do you separate yourself from the rest of the pack? I don’t feel like either one of the teams from the ACC ever separated themselves from the pack. And I told you that Ohio State, they got a defense now. Don’t you sleep on that Ohio State defense. And I knew that Clemson’s defense was subpar. Let’s do names. Go see scouts who can stay in the game. That dude can’t come here to save his life. So how are you gonna cover how you gonna play teams that go to spray it off as a team like just with Justin fields? You that’s a matchup nightmare. He can cover anybody. Clemson’s DPS are not the best. That’s why you seen Ohio State violation. How many touchdowns Justin field throw six did they call?
Unknown Speaker 28:43
God?
Justin Riley 28:46
Well, let’s turn our attention to our game. What were your main takeaways from Alabama versus Notre Dame?
Unknown Speaker 28:55
For me, just just the way we we were able to, you know, we were able to run the ball. I mean, you look at devonta Freeman, he was able to do basically do what he wanted to he was. I mean, nobody, nobody could cover I mean, you would think going into the game. I’m not gonna let six beat me. And he still went out there and beat you. They still did what he wanted to do. And just the way we ran the ball, how nazy ran the ball, man, it’s a dolphin salon block well, so I mean, just to see how our team is finding our team executed. It just makes you feel good how we performed in the game.
Marvin Constant 29:41
Offensively, we did what we were supposed to do. Right. I have nothing to say about the offense defensively.
Pete Golding needs to be fired. As soon as this game is over. He should have been fired before he Here’s the thing. How do you let them score late in the game and Vegas collect the spread was 90. You have spread cover you let Notre Dame scored late in the game and end up with a 14 point game. Vegas was so happy that Pete Golding is Alabama’s defensive coordinator, because Alabama 90 points loss because why we got Pete Golding as a defensive coordinator, let them score late in the game, and let Vegas win. Come on, man. Come on. Hey, we
Justin Riley 30:31
actually have a call from the audience. Let me let them in real quick Tasha asked a question. You’re live on the rollin constant show with Steve Brown. Tell us who you are and where you come from.
Unknown Speaker 30:46
Oh, Justin, thanks for having me. It’s it’s your old friend from a couple months ago. Mike from Syracuse, New York. Glad to have you back on brother.
Unknown Speaker 30:56
How’s it going?
Unknown Speaker 30:57
Well, I apologize. guys love the show. I’ve been really busy. I get you on Wednesdays, and run that review. So I appreciate being able to get on this time. Big thing we all know big championship next week. Again, late to the show tonight. So I’m sorry if I’m being repetitive. So I love our defense. We have some great players on defense. But it just seems still till today. We can’t get it together as a whole. What do you think are going to be the keys to the matchup? next week?
Unknown Speaker 31:30
I repeat gold Golding. That’s the key to being successful. Stay in Tuscaloosa Don’t let him on the plane.
Unknown Speaker 31:44
Think ultimately, man, I think we struggled to get a pass rush probably for a while now. I think if we’re able to get a good pass rush and put some pressure on him. I think it’ll help out the guys in the back end. But
Marvin Constant 31:58
now hold on. Hold on. Let me ask you a question though. Okay, so you say we aren’t able to get a pass rush which is very true. So for us not to be able to get a pass rush Why do we run someone’s man to man coverage
Unknown Speaker 32:13
I can’t answer that for you.
Marvin Constant 32:16
If If we cannot cover I mean we can’t cover for them. So if you’re not getting a pass rush you allow that quarterback to just sit back back there you cannot allow Justin fields to sit back there all day. So he’s gonna either have to put some pressures in he had to mix it in we got to run more zone we got to run some zone blitzes, you have to run some bracket coverages on the back end stop Let me start out is man the man we get no shots
Unknown Speaker 32:46
he right you right if you’re gonna if you’re gonna run man a man like that man. You gotta have some dogs up front you gotta have some dogs that that can that can come off the rock and or you got it you got to put more man Blitz packages in there to put pressure on the quarterback and make him you know possibly rushes throwing maybe get a picker to
Marvin Constant 33:05
Hey, you want a phone number so you can call Pete and tell him that I can get his number nine maybe you can call Tarot pro Let me tell you how to run a defense.
Justin Riley 33:22
answer your question Mike.
Unknown Speaker 33:25
Justin, I appreciate it. I gotta say you too. Me too. I was in college when Tyrone pros row and I believe later I don’t know if he’s on yet his tennis Darby. I was in college at Alabama when those two guys legends to me. So if you’re there, I appreciate everything you guys did. And she took a cotton studies class with Kevin Darby. I still remember today when the new addition on the stadium was getting done awesome stuff. Awesome stuff. appreciate everything you guys have done for the university.
Marvin Constant 33:54
Did you do any of his homework for him?
Unknown Speaker 34:00
struggled I struggled get my own done.
Justin Riley 34:20
All right. Well, thanks for the call Mike. Appreciate it as always great question.
Unknown Speaker 34:25
What one one last thing guys to let you know. So I’m up here in Syracuse, New York. I go to Rochester an hour away for all the games. Now there used to be an alumni association in Rochester used to be about 60 people strong unfortunately, they’ve all you know passed away through the years and we’re down to about four people I’m the youngest person by about 50 years but we’re not strong in numbers but man that we strongest spirit so we root on Alabama, as much as we can I got a little southern drawl middle Alabama Right there. guys wrote by Bobby shout
Marvin Constant 35:06
out to the Rochester Alabama Alumni Association man. Hey, listen man, keep doing what you’re doing. It doesn’t matter how many numbers you have, we’ll just say it’s not the size of the dog in the fight. It’s the size of the fight in the dough. So keep doing what you’re doing now. Oh, tide.
Unknown Speaker 35:22
Roll Tide.
Justin Riley 35:25
Roll Tide.
Unknown Speaker 35:28
All right.
Unknown Speaker 35:31
All right.
Justin Riley 35:32
So I do have to ask. Yeah, you know, you had a pretty good Lita made that catch Tyrone but what about nacho cheese leap over that grown man? So what y’all think about that
Unknown Speaker 35:43
man for him to be is as big as he is for him to be able to you know to jump over you know, basically a grown man the dude is ridiculous man just to see you know, just the athleticism that he has and and then for him to land on his feet and go on and keep going you know for that fact so just to see him do that man some of the things that he does like you don’t think somebody of his size could you know she should be able to do that but but he does and he does it on a regular basis. He just amazes me what you know just the things that he does
Marvin Constant 36:20
look like one of my moves
Justin Riley 36:28
you just ran through people bro I know the
Marvin Constant 36:34
jumping off sides
Justin Riley 36:38
I do remember that so I know the score shows that we dominated Notre Dame but do you guys feel like we left some points on the field
Marvin Constant 36:50
left some points on the field I think Nick really took his foot off the gas we could have done a lot more I feel
Unknown Speaker 36:57
I feel like that too. I feel like I feel like that kind of led up Yeah, I just didn’t want it to get you know I didn’t want it to get ugly cuz he always does that against you know against other coaches like you know just kind of you know, lets up and wants to he wants to get the game over late in the game. And I think he was more you know, the past and offense did they call it at the end? I think he was more pissed off that the referees called called a penalty when he really just wanted to get the game over.
Marvin Constant 37:30
But I hope he let Sark go out and start this week in less than you air it out the point on the field I hope he’ll open up playbook up and just start glowing with a halo three like
Justin Riley 38:05
what takeaway from this game defensively makes you feel competent about going up against them
Unknown Speaker 38:14
well have we heard that if Mel cowboy was coming back yet cuz you know he didn’t play in that last game.
Justin Riley 38:24
I have not heard for certain I heard he would
Unknown Speaker 38:28
think he was I think he was out with an injury last game. So you guys man that’s that’s it that’s you mean you kind of he’s kind of that that honey badger type player? Yeah. You know where he you know, he just kind of makes plays that
Marvin Constant 38:48
Oh, loves Tyrone, but Oh, let me fill in for him. Yeah, Miss Malika. We missed Malakal last week because again when you can’t get pressure up front, you need quarterbacks DBS that can cover for an extended period of time so and we’ve not been the best that that all season getting pressure so we leave our DBS on an island man you know I would have I’d love to see the stats that sir tan and Joe and Malika would have if we had a real pass rush whatever had to come out quick. I would love to see their stats. In that case I’m their stats would be phenomenal. If If we had if we had that. If we if we had a real pass rush those Malika and certeyn wouldn’t have PB us interceptions the whole nine days.
Justin Riley 39:47
Malika Miss last week because he was a little banged up from the Florida game. I was told that he was he dressed out he could have gone at the absolutely needed him. But of course we didn’t need him but he should be able to go this coming week against Ohio State. One person that really stood out to me was the Mako hellums. That guy was all over the place. It’s like, he stood up where Malika normally would have been. And he really showed me something this past game.
Unknown Speaker 40:15
Oh, yeah, that’s what I like 14 man, he, you know, I feel like he, he flies around and, you know, he’ll come up and tackle. But you know, it’s something about 13. And he just, he flies around. He has a knack for making making those plays. And you want to if he can go, you want to go out there like that on the field?
Marvin Constant 40:38
Well, you know, seeing Helms and all these young guys played us, we know that the future’s bright for our deepness. If we get repeat, we get kicked out of LSU man. I got a 13 year old that I know can call better defenses. Oh man did pee can in real life. I mean, come on, man. How do we allow this atrocity to go on for a year or two? In fact, not be a year three? Oh, man, he got to go man, you cannot have that much talent and not be dominating people. Cuz I’m gonna tell you like, it’s, I get it. You know, we struggle with the passwords. So why do you keep setting your DBS? Without it, stop doing it until you find that dog and get that pressive go to zone defense, start breaking I would even bracket bracket to the field plays on to the boundary and just be done with it.
Justin Riley 41:41
In the middle of your tie right there, which is definitely worth it. Ken Darby has joined us welcome to the show.
Marvin Constant 41:52
Is the phone working is the metro PCs working kid.
Unknown Speaker 41:56
I don’t see him on here.
Justin Riley 41:59
He’s showing up on mine.
Unknown Speaker 42:02
Oh, there he is. Right there.
Unknown Speaker 42:04
You got him.
Marvin Constant 42:06
He got this snap wireless from Walmart over to
Unknown Speaker 42:11

Unknown Speaker 42:14

Justin Riley 42:16

Unknown Speaker 43:18

Justin Riley 43:29
Yeah, what’s going on with you trying to Brother
Unknown Speaker 43:31
man? Yeah, I do a little coaching on the side man. And I try this one athlete who like to get it in man. So we’re doing some live training sessions that night and went over time. So
Marvin Constant 43:45
hey, well, you know if you need some some fitness equipment, I got my 40 plus strong compression sleeves. elbows, knees. Ankle braces wraps. The belt? Yeah.
Justin Riley 44:15
That’s what we did. The first half of the show was Marvin and pro throw flexing man, so you missed out on that. Oh, man. Go right ahead. I’ll give you some time before they make the announcement
Unknown Speaker 44:29
to me.
Unknown Speaker 44:35
Hey, bro, looking good family.
Marvin Constant 44:37
Appreciate it.
Unknown Speaker 44:38
When you add these days. Mom and husband What? Madison, Madison, Madison. Okay. Yeah.
Unknown Speaker 44:49
Come check you out.
Unknown Speaker 44:50
Well, come on.
Unknown Speaker 44:53
Let me know.
Marvin Constant 44:54
Yeah. They asked me to come to some over in May. I told him it depends what the COVID looking like I ain’t trying to die. You All right. All money good money. You can keep that in mind if you’re gonna copy my life.
Justin Riley 45:09
I attempt to share this on the the announcement. So let’s see what happens if ESPN Oh, let me
Marvin Constant 45:19
show you can do that over that man on your chart wireless.
Justin Riley 45:24
Y’all see it? Yeah, see? Let me take it off mute here. Hopefully I won’t they won’t take us off a YouTube or in all the places we’re on just to make this quick announcement. All right, man.
Unknown Speaker 45:50
Yeah, man.
Unknown Speaker 45:51
I got it.
Unknown Speaker 45:51
I got a witness thing. I’m all for it.
Unknown Speaker 45:55
I think it’s close between him and Matt. Here we go.
Unknown Speaker 46:02
We’re gonna take that thing. Oh, man. He should. Yeah, he should. Rob
Unknown Speaker 46:09
legacy of a Heisman Trophy winner. And now, without further ado, 2020 The winner of the Heisman Trophy. is Yvonne taste.
Unknown Speaker 46:26
Good, man.
Unknown Speaker 46:37
Okay.
Unknown Speaker 46:54
Nah. No big. Oh, yeah. First two running backs.
Unknown Speaker 47:03
The first receive out of Alabama history to get hot.
Unknown Speaker 47:06
Yes, sir.
Unknown Speaker 47:08
That’s big.
Unknown Speaker 47:11
Then the deuce place like third place. Yeah.
Marvin Constant 47:18
Third place in. Yo dp. Yes, sir.
Justin Riley 47:23
Oh, yeah, he was. Was he was the second or third.
Unknown Speaker 47:27
I thought he was third.
Justin Riley 47:29
Yeah. Charlie Ward, he’s Schuler and then David Palmer. Yes. Right.
Unknown Speaker 47:34
Yep. You know, I
Marvin Constant 47:37
couldn’t be happier for the vontae match to do what he did could have left last year for him to come back and improve his stop and to do what he did this season man. It’s something that you don’t see out of many kids today because this generation to me it’s all about instant gratification. They want it now now. Right? I’m have the patience to sit back and say let me do this one more year. Because I know how this is gonna impact my life in a positive way. Moving forward. That was so big of him to take that step. Now that was a decision that a man makes
Unknown Speaker 48:12
well definitely you said that key word a man because he definitely you don’t have to start the league last year but you’re right bro the process and he did that was a great Greg business decision on this court.
Unknown Speaker 48:27
right decision because he’s gonna
Unknown Speaker 48:31
do you know what the The good thing is? And I know that I know they not everlast every last person on this Alabama team can come back next year.
Unknown Speaker 48:41
Oh, yeah. Yeah.
Unknown Speaker 48:43
They can come back next year and do it all over again. But of course I know that I know. That ain’t gonna happen. No, but
Marvin Constant 48:50
I would think about going to try and see what he got. Start with me. Hey, man, I
Justin Riley 49:04
gotta get it in Steve had made up his celebrity appearance. Yes.
Marvin Constant 49:13
Hand him a towel with white they swear. Oh, man. I My take is my gas light. Oh, man. There ain’t nothing in the tank for that.
Unknown Speaker 49:30
Boy clean domain clean up though.
Unknown Speaker 49:32
He did.
Unknown Speaker 49:33
Yes, he is.
Justin Riley 49:34
Man was amazing about the volunteers that I’ve had there. He was at least talked about coming in. He said, you know, no one was really giving him his props. And then he was patient. And most people nowadays, man, they’re not gonna be patient. They’re going they’re going to get mad and get frustrated. They’re going to jump in the college free agency. I mean, the transfer portal. No, he just waited for his time to come in, man. Like y’all said man business decision. He Shawn the past two years, he dominated he really should have got the bulletin of golf last year when he even mentioned you know, as a finalist, which was ridiculous, man just just talk about how he just kind of became the guy in a group with Jerry Judy Henry rugs. Jalen waddle and you know let’s go
Unknown Speaker 50:19
man i think i think he kind of went about his business quietly man that’s why you never heard about it. His name was you know his name was what it was but you know when you talk about your names all you hear really mostly is the Jalen waters the Emeralds the Jerry Judy the guys that
Unknown Speaker 50:39
but he quietly went about his
Unknown Speaker 50:41
business and how many games what five games last year he hit 200 yards? Yeah, I mean, I mean he just he went about his business like in really nobody you know it wasn’t talked about much but for him to come back and then you know just better his game and like he said stay in the film room like man this dude was eating cats up dog It was really is really like unfair with him coming you know him doing as well as he did last year and then for him to come back and and just put up the numbers and basically out diminish his cows out there running routes on phones man like like when you if you’re to be able to run routes You don’t have to be the fastest guy on the field but to be able to run routes to get yourself open like average quarterback and get you to buy if you’re able to run routes and get open a you know just just a good quarterback in NFL can get you the ball and he can
Unknown Speaker 51:47
know about the route runner brothers definitely, you
Unknown Speaker 51:54
know, my routes was good. Routes was awesome.
Unknown Speaker 52:08
To be running around
Justin Riley 52:10
yards and flex
Marvin Constant 52:11
both. When we were in the field, man, I wouldn’t even know right when the ball wide open. No love. I guess he’s like that’s a linebacker for real. Cleveland wasted down.
Justin Riley 52:43
Another guy came back with an awesome business decision was nazy. I mean, he was looking like a day to pick maybe even you know, third round, but he’s easily played himself into the first round pick. Absolutely amazing. Can we talk a little bit about earlier his game against Notre Dame, but what are your thoughts? You know, being one of the guys he actually passed on the all time leading Russian stats? What do you feel about him? Do you see a little bit of yourself and his game? No,
Unknown Speaker 53:09
I think that he definitely different from me. I say that and I can leave like that in his house on a whole nother level to my man. But yeah, that man nyjah I definitely give him a lot of props and a lot of credit, because like you said he could have left last year but just like the vontae I think he consider the cost on what it would take to come back this year if he just pretty much honing in on his craft, which him and demonte did. And I think Yeah, him in the runtime period. I think they kind of separate themselves from the pack of people that came back in and I think last year pretty much gave them an edge because they knew what the game was like and what they was playing against as far as competition. And from that point, it’s all about having that dog mindset. And I think both of them boys got that dog mindset where they can just separate away from the average receiver average running back, boys nije man, their kid there, man, I think I think he will be another type. David Henry. I think he gonna get even better when he gets to the next level. His style of running. He ran hard. He was smart runner. And he took I think he gonna get to the next level and do just as good as he’s doing now on on a college level. But yeah, I’m glad he did come back because now you actually get to see exactly what everybody was talking about. High School, right? Yeah, so he definitely that do man he on the hill on another level right now.
Unknown Speaker 54:37
Let me ask you this, though. If If Jalen waddle plays his whole year is the vontae Smith sitting up here right now.
Marvin Constant 54:45
I’m gonna say yes, I think you go back to second and 26th. Smitty has been doing work for a year now. No doubt, no doubt under the radar. Last year again, how many 200 yard received Even games, how many games will fall in five touchdowns? Even last year? He shot you. I’ll be honest with you last year, I thought he’s the best receive on the team ahead of rules ahead of June God. Yeah. Yeah.
Justin Riley 55:13
I think he probably would have had more yards had Jalen been there because Who are you going? covers both those guys.
Unknown Speaker 55:19
You gave?
Justin Riley 55:21
Yeah. And they got Billingsley there too. And you got matching? What?
Unknown Speaker 55:28
The only reason I said is because with Jalen there, Matt can spread the ball out a little bit more. Yeah. So he had does he, you know, just to production wise, I know, he’s still gonna get his numbers and they still gonna get the ball to him. But does he have? I know he’s gonna have a, he still would have had a productive year. But does he have as productive of a year that he’s had? I guess you saying? Because what cuz what was that dude, and they’re gonna try to get on him also. Mm. So? Yep. So I mean, you really kind of you got to pick your poison with either one of them. So you got to think if we’re throwing, throwing it to water, you know, five, six more times, that’s taken away five or six more times that they that they could be thrown to the vontae and vice versa. So that’s why I asked a question, you know, is he still sitting up here? And I know it. I know, he’s definitely gonna have a productive year. But is he still sitting up here in New York? Well, of course he did in New York, but yeah.
Marvin Constant 56:31
Yeah, because you can’t bracket him anymore. If you got Jalen over. Jalen makes it a lot more difficult for you to double T or run a bracket coverage on Smith.
Unknown Speaker 56:41
He gets up he was still.
Marvin Constant 56:44
So are you gonna leave your DBS on Jane? One on one?
Unknown Speaker 56:48
No, then a no win situation goes
Unknown Speaker 56:51
both ways. No way. No
Unknown Speaker 56:53
is a choice. Me personally, I think hypothetically speaking, I think if Jalen was still healthy, and he was playing, I think Nigel would have had 2000 yards. Easy. And I think all three of them Joe was probably would have been like,
Unknown Speaker 57:10
I think if Jalen were there, I think Mac would have been more out there than
Marvin Constant 57:17
he thought him catch the ball. Hey, so hey, listen, no word on the street. Jamie playing Monday.
Unknown Speaker 57:23
Word on the Street. Practice today.
Justin Riley 57:26
Yeah, I was gonna ask you about that. Today, is he? Or if he does, what percentage is Kenny Can he operate at man?
Unknown Speaker 57:35
Regardless, regardless to witness? You know? I think it’s either one that he that he ready to go and he can play or you given them something that they got to prepare for?
Marvin Constant 57:49
I don’t think that he will play if he’s not ready to play. Because I’m pretty sure he knows this is his last year at Alabama. So why go out here and risk playing hurt. When you about to be a first round pick? I wouldn’t do it.
Unknown Speaker 58:04
Yeah,
Unknown Speaker 58:04
he got he got to come back another year. He just a sophomore. Junior.
Unknown Speaker 58:09
He’s a junior.
Unknown Speaker 58:15
Junior. Oh,
Unknown Speaker 58:17
yeah. Yeah.
Marvin Constant 58:22
He’s 100% healthy because nobody who’s about to be a first round pick. will go out there and risk playing hurt in a game. They don’t have to play. I wouldn’t
Unknown Speaker 58:36
be some serious man. Yeah. Yeah. About what I tell him I may be postponed or something like that. Yeah.
Unknown Speaker 58:52
Watch, watch
Justin Riley 58:53
that they say your
daughter. His daughter tweeted out
Unknown Speaker 59:13
do so did that came out. Everybody in the country knew that. That’s if that was true. What they was doing with that? Yeah. Let’s come out with COVID Let’s give let’s give ourselves the best chance to win.
Marvin Constant 59:28
planet and helmet and hit real so smooth. Every day my ribs are it
Justin Riley 59:35
sounds if y’all played hurt? I know you played hurt. Constantly, man. Goodness. Think of that. Hey, we got a question from the audience for kin. sec. Can you get up against guys like Freddie Roach? jajuan Simpson D’Amico runs and practice every day. How does that make you better as a player and prepare you for big games like the one we’re talking about?
Unknown Speaker 59:56
Man make games like this easy. Against players that you already know is like on another level and they feel so that’s why I think every game that we had I felt like it was no linebackers that I played against I can leave her to say right back as I played against i thought was better than what I went against every day and breath period right? So they just made me better as a player and I didn’t look at another linebacker like a game like hey man,
Marvin Constant 1:00:24
hey can we use tear Freddie Roach to quit telling people that he’s better than me? My stop stroking his own ego Tell me Hey
Justin Riley 1:00:43
to come over here man debate that
Unknown Speaker 1:00:47
I’ve been drawn
Marvin Constant 1:00:50
to I’m a Texan when we done credit he’d be acting like he’s so busy coaching I said I’m just happy golf carts I used to want to do a ride ride in a golf cart.
Justin Riley 1:01:14
I see me this receiver group we have How do they compare with the group is you had y’all had some dudes man we just didn’t toss the ball round like we do now.
Unknown Speaker 1:01:22
I mean, I mean just as far as you know our receiver group man we just we had guys that you know that would be Hey guys would you know route running? Like we all understood we all work well together and of course we had that gunslinger back there that that can put the ball wherever he wanted to put it at so you know just compared to the guys that you know that are playing now. I think you know really I tell people all the time like guys these days. Like I almost feel like there’s so much faster
Marvin Constant 1:01:54
like a faster protest of truth y’all was thought block specialists. now now now I will say we were we were blocking a lot of the time Katie Katie
Unknown Speaker 1:02:10
Hey, I was always
Unknown Speaker 1:02:13
kind of blocking you
Unknown Speaker 1:02:21
stop blocking specialists out there but you know what we all understood it wasn’t no Savage nism amongst our group we all understood our role we all understood what we had to do to get done and that was making an extra block to spring Katie loose and it was you know we did what we had to do it but these days you know it is spread out as they are now like these cats they get more and more of an opportunity to run around and run routes and in actually just how they prepare how route running is more prevalent now than it was when I was in school Yeah, we were in rounds but these guys now they got gurus and all this stuff like that are out there like you know they put in style to it and making you know it’s just it’s totally different than when did when when we were in school but you know we also like I said you know they’re also more spread out now unable to you know, they thought about a lot more now than than it did when we were in school
Marvin Constant 1:03:25
yeah we was in school it was pretty much to tidy and evolve and and a fullback like wide receivers right every game gonna be alone with boy
Unknown Speaker 1:03:46
yeah
Justin Riley 1:03:49
no doubt keep coming for us all offensive line just won the Joe Moore award for the best in the nation. But we’ll be going up against Ohio State with Outlander Dickerson What does it mean not having him against that defense that looked pretty good against Clemson I’ll let you start with this Kansans your running back and course those guys meant a lot to you
Unknown Speaker 1:04:09
repeat that question.
Justin Riley 1:04:11
Okay. Basically I was just saying how you know the awards keep pouring in of course often sublines just won the Joe Moore award and but we’re gonna be without the services one of the guys that got the award is Landon Dickerson. What kind of effect is not having him in the lineup gonna present us against Ohio State’s defense and I want to get your perspective first because you know, the offensive line is a big deal to you because of all success you had.
Unknown Speaker 1:04:37
Yeah, man um, his presence definitely gonna be felt that is not gonna be the president will be missed that he not gonna be there but at the same time, like the guys that was on the line with him I know for a fact all those guys learn from each other. They pretty much iron sharpens iron. So pretty much those jokers definitely stronger. Now, when I first saw it, then when I first saw it, I saw him not being as good But at the same time I know all those boys definitely got that mentality to get the job done even the guy that’s coming in stepping in this place I think was I don’t think we’re gonna miss a beat I really don’t think we’re gonna miss a beat at all I think we’re gonna come out looking just as good you know so and I know he got our no he and everybody here or whatnot because he’s just a type of leader anyway so I think everybody gonna come out firing on all cylinders especially Oh line I think they’re gonna come out do tremendous just for him cuz he’s not their
Marvin Constant 1:05:28
god please let our offense and offensive line be excellent please let our offense score 50 points because we don’t need it because Pete gonna give up 49 and a half
if he is on other teams payroll they gotta they gotta be on a game because again people screw us man it’s I’m praying that we don’t miss a beat because Pete goes girls telling you know
Unknown Speaker 1:06:02
they may they may surprise you Marvin, they may say
Marvin Constant 1:06:05
no I’m not we’re I’m the players are gonna play I’m talking about Pete golden the defensive coordinator he surprised me Pete gonna do this give up points and watch Nick to him out the best thing that can happen is for Pete to have a quarantine because he around somebody test positive for some and for Pete to stay at home and not leave pee in Tuscaloosa cancer to win
Unknown Speaker 1:06:34
at home
Unknown Speaker 1:06:35
I think he’ll I think he’ll step up to the plate man
Unknown Speaker 1:06:40
he was
Marvin Constant 1:06:42
working with we let’s look at the last two years has our defense play to the defensive stance and I don’t even go back to when I played when I played we had number two defense in the country and we give up what eight nine points again has the defense played to the Alabama standard?
Unknown Speaker 1:07:00
No past two you know
Justin Riley 1:07:03
no practice number one defense in the country No,
Unknown Speaker 1:07:06
no
Unknown Speaker 1:07:09
but I tell you
Unknown Speaker 1:07:11
at home
Unknown Speaker 1:07:14
Hey everybody know they better? They better put an extra spice in a game come say listen
Marvin Constant 1:07:19
I worried about players is that I’m worried about Pete has been trashed since day one
Unknown Speaker 1:07:26
you know what you know when when when a chip you know saving on another level so I’m pretty sure all the coaches probably getting a justice or those players right now.
Unknown Speaker 1:07:34
Oh yeah.
Unknown Speaker 1:07:35
So already know.
Unknown Speaker 1:07:37
He He probably Oh yeah, he
Unknown Speaker 1:07:39
know he
Unknown Speaker 1:07:42
probably he probably got it he probably getting it this week
Unknown Speaker 1:07:47
because he knows what this game means.
Unknown Speaker 1:07:54
He know he probably on the chopping block so he gotta come with a good game
Marvin Constant 1:08:04
plan. All right, look at this. I’m gonna go back to last year when we play our Matt Jones played the game good enough for us to win and did he not only put up 40 some points, but Auburn put up 40 some with that crash quarterback Bo Nix Bo Nix is trash Gus malzahn who’s now fine is trash. You let news trash beat us on a regular basis. Look at Ole Miss. Ole Miss almost beat us trash. I mean come on man. Look again give up late touchdown touchdown to Notre Dame you left Vegas with trash Come on man. SEC championship against four point game I’m sitting on my couch rocking back and forth like I need a priest for them come back though. never come back. close game we got to make late stops we are wide receivers mentioned he got to go ahead and power drive people so we can keep cuz God knows had let you not hit buddy and Florida scored that touchdown. Right. Hey, leave Pete s in Tuscaloosa St. Pete to round a house to get him a fistful of whatever he drinking and let her watch them game at the ball.
Unknown Speaker 1:09:25
The ball is
Marvin Constant 1:09:30
the Florida game. Well, we play a team with a dynamic quarterback and a coach that can call plays. We struggle struggle struggle struggle I’m worried I’m nervous man angle after watching how you stay put up numbers they did against Clemson after watching them dams that Justin field was dropping. I get it Clemson DBS they were they suspected but still need to be at home.
Unknown Speaker 1:09:57
He gonna surprise you bro.
Unknown Speaker 1:10:00
pee pee don’t surprise you.
Unknown Speaker 1:10:04
So you ain’t gonna be satisfied until Pete put up a goose a
Unknown Speaker 1:10:13
goose egg.
Justin Riley 1:10:14
Y’all care and care to add to that, y’all I’d be politically correct here.
Marvin Constant 1:10:19
You know what Pete Pete know about the infinity symbol that that what do you give up? and leave it at home?
Unknown Speaker 1:10:30
Oh my gosh. So
Marvin Constant 1:10:36
here’s the question. We know plenty. I tell you what might do books. I’m telling one of the favorite funny things ever heard. DuBose say? Yeah, I remember Bob Ralston bought was about 6768 325. You know, a DuBose said one day, we’re gonna let you be the first person off the bus because all you’re gonna do is intimidate people when you get on fear. You know? Got them, bro. So
what are you gonna do when you get that? Oh. And he done nothing the past two years, man again. You let Bo Nix and Gus malzahn beat you. Matt Jones. Phenomenal performance solid. game you played against Michigan in the bowl game. They put up points on us again. Look at the SEC championship last week. six point game. Come on, man. We should have blown Florida out.
Justin Riley 1:11:26
So I had to ask all this. Yeah, both you guys were considered playmakers on yalls. Team. How important are the impact players in this game? And what would you guys tell devontae and nnaji.
Unknown Speaker 1:11:39
To go pro?
Unknown Speaker 1:11:40
Well,
Unknown Speaker 1:11:43
I think they got they gotta step up. The impact players got to be the impact players, they got to show up in the game. I’ve always been told, you know, you know, even when I was playing that, you know, big time players make big time plays and big time games. And those big time players have to make those big time plays. Especially if you know if if the talent level on both sides are equal. Then the you gotta write you got to be the cream of the crop and you got to rise to the top and our best players have to show up in this game. Our best players have to be better than their best players. Because I mean, it ain’t no, ain’t no secret. They got some dudes on that side that can play ball too. So our dudes just got to show up and play ball man and
Marvin Constant 1:12:30
let me ask you a question. No, you just said I do. Show up now. Ryan Ryan day cosplays. For Ohio State. He’s the OC. Do you really think Pete Golding is ready to match wits with Ryan day?
Unknown Speaker 1:12:45
Do you really
Marvin Constant 1:12:52
know next question? Do you really think he Golding is ready to match with with Ryan day? And no be scared?
Unknown Speaker 1:13:01
safe place? I think that matchup it means no, I think I think that matchup between coordinators, and that seems like yeah, you will give the edge to today because of how
Marvin Constant 1:13:19
I’m gonna give him the whole piece. But But, uh,
Unknown Speaker 1:13:24
but you know, offensively, I mean, I don’t I don’t know who their defense coordinate is. You gotta you gotta look at Sark pro Pro,
Marvin Constant 1:13:31
pro stop, be politically correct. Fine. Well, I know you’re talking. coordinators.
Unknown Speaker 1:13:43
You were talking about coordinators.
Marvin Constant 1:13:47
Do we talk okay, but but
Unknown Speaker 1:13:50
you can’t talk about coordinators. If you can’t talk about the other coordinators.
Unknown Speaker 1:13:55
Yes, we can. Okay, so
Unknown Speaker 1:13:59
is there is there a defensive coordinator is is he ready? He’s gonna be abused against abuse those who ever get the worst abuse, right?
Marvin Constant 1:14:09
So what you’re saying is we need a hotline on this show.
Let me ask you this. Do you see if we had Kirby smart, or Jimmy Pruitt as defensive coordinator, that Ryan day will still have the same success that he’s gonna have? No,
Unknown Speaker 1:14:37
no, no, no. But I also think he going to show up even show up for you.
Marvin Constant 1:14:44
I’m telling ya, he’s gonna get off the ball. Express. How many days do y’all show up to work but don’t do when you get y’all come on man. Don’t do he I’ll get off the bus and his love fresh press suit. Go down that nervous. Can I guarantee he nervous? Pete nervous? He’s trembling.
Unknown Speaker 1:15:07
You’re on the chopping block nervous, you know, you’re the chopping block. So that’s how. That’s how I know he goes. That’s how I know he’ll come. He’ll come with a good game plan that
Marvin Constant 1:15:20
question, Ken. Was he not on the chopping block before we played Florida? Yeah, I think what what was his game plan sufficient? knowing he was on the chopping block? When we played Florida? Was his game plan adequate?
Unknown Speaker 1:15:38
It wasn’t Not at all. Good. Oh, man. It wasn’t, but I got the job done.
Marvin Constant 1:15:47
Okay, hold on, hold on. You say we got the job done. Do you think that that defensive performance we had against Florida if we have the same performance,
Unknown Speaker 1:15:56
what do you think’s gonna happen? Are No, we don’t get what but what they will. Now, if we play the Florida against Ohio State,
Marvin Constant 1:16:05
listen, I’m gonna tell you something, I’m gonna tell you some real from from a linebacker and defensive players perspective. I guarantee you, if I was on that team, I will be telling them dues. I look, I know our coordinator is. But we got to go out here and play like we never played before. They gotta have to rally together around each other. They will have to be their support system. They gotta rely on each other more than they ever have in life in order for him to pull this off. And that’s the thing, Bro, I
Unknown Speaker 1:16:33
think they will do that. I think they will have
Marvin Constant 1:16:36
to, I don’t put him in a bad position out of all the people
Unknown Speaker 1:16:39
out there in that secondary who you think is the dog in the secondary? But for the team fighting right now just
Justin Riley 1:16:45
oh Malika more for one.
Marvin Constant 1:16:48
Well, certain, you know, because they don’t throw it in like that, you know, I try to stay away from certain Yeah,
Unknown Speaker 1:16:55
so what I’m going with that is this because like what you say more of a great point is going to come back down to your question as well. I think the players are gonna have to rally around cuz at the end of the day, no matter what play Call of what defenses said he put up put them boys in, they just don’t have to.
Justin Riley 1:17:15
regard regarding
Marvin Constant 1:17:18
back to what I’ve been saying, we don’t get enough of a press pass rush to run all the men men lovers that we run. That’s true.
Unknown Speaker 1:17:28
That’s true, right?
Marvin Constant 1:17:34
cuz I’d be honest with you, you know, we were fortunate when I played that we had a pretty solid pass rush because you know, I’m covering you know, I might have had done a star wars in the slot that I might have had to cover or Cedric Wilson or something. You take him cover them all day. No, but luckily, we had a decent pass rush to where we could run the stuff that we again as a coordinator you should not just run the defense that you want to run you should run a defense that suits your personnel and that’s not what we do.
Unknown Speaker 1:18:03
I agree. armory which
Justin Riley 1:18:07
back to my question Can being a former impact players yourself what would you tell nausia devonta in this game?
Unknown Speaker 1:18:14
I tell them boys personally I just don’t keep doing what I’ve been doing. Oh yeah. Don’t go in and feeling like you need to do more than what you’ve been doing
Marvin Constant 1:18:23
more than they’ve been doing man
Unknown Speaker 1:18:26
Yeah, we already you already established to Bama fans and everybody in the nation that you those players so at the end of day like we’re like pro se it doesn’t have to be a different mindset Oh no. So you really don’t have to go out there knowing that whoever lined up in front of you they they can see here right they see you like it don’t matter I’m not going to do no extra I’m just going to let you know that I’m better than you period nobody right but not as easy as I used to be like nobody on the field can tap on me is no such thing as a one on one time you don’t have to bring all the love in the brain my dad period yeah like
Unknown Speaker 1:19:04
as far as your preparation yeah like you prepare the way you always prepare like no I don’t think you got to do too much like Katie said but when it comes to the plays on that field 5050 balls you got to come down with like the plays that you did the one on one plays like you got to make them run out one on one one on one Najin them in an open one on one with a with a modern American miss you you got them you got to make a mess we got to make a minute so like that’s why that’s what I mean by like you know pepper preparation stays the same like you don’t do you don’t you don’t go you know try to do too much because you can do too much but you know as far as playing on making the plays on the field you got you had your best players have to be better than their best players. Exactly. And how our best our best guys are stood need to outshine their students.
Marvin Constant 1:19:57
See, but the only problem with that is they got just ministers is us see they do so when you got an equal amount of stuff it falls back on coaching and the
Unknown Speaker 1:20:07
man Lee p gold and alone
Marvin Constant 1:20:12
alone if I had to play under p going out into the transfer portal I’m sorry can’t call you after this
Unknown Speaker 1:20:21
game. I’m gonna call you right after this game and I’ll say all I’m gonna say is I told you so can we
Marvin Constant 1:20:31
give up if they give up 40 points Am I gonna hear from you if they give up for two points
Unknown Speaker 1:20:36
I’m still call you and I’m gonna be like
Unknown Speaker 1:20:40
you say us right
Marvin Constant 1:20:48
because you got it better than Florida’s office
Unknown Speaker 1:20:53
yeah
Unknown Speaker 1:20:53
yeah i agree with it
Justin Riley 1:21:00
well given our our defensive challenges how do we stop Justin fields Trey sermon and Chris holiday
Unknown Speaker 1:21:10
we’re gonna have to put pressure on him does this
Unknown Speaker 1:21:14
play as simple as that you got to get pressure on it put
Unknown Speaker 1:21:17
pressure you want to
Unknown Speaker 1:21:19
know the truth
Unknown Speaker 1:21:21
here we go no to
Unknown Speaker 1:21:24
oh yeah
Unknown Speaker 1:21:28
he did he did that show going you put pressure on him is nothing
Marvin Constant 1:21:35
by the time I finished with him you feel like he was a slap at dreamland
Unknown Speaker 1:21:41
Hey, you know he’s gonna come into the game already kind of apprehensive because of them were Yep, so Exactly.
Justin Riley 1:21:49
More can eat
Unknown Speaker 1:21:51
Yeah, so
Marvin Constant 1:21:55
if he starts running a lot Do we have the personnel to handle him as a runner? Because we all know just hear me out. We run a lot of man coverage when you have that much man coverage and you got a quarterback who can run who gonna go get them with everybody got the banner chasing receivers
Unknown Speaker 1:22:19
that’s what we just got to run on that D line hold it down. Gotta keep them in that box a little longer.
Unknown Speaker 1:22:30
answer to this is
Unknown Speaker 1:22:32
the harness so much leverage to that front fold in front dudes have got to get Yeah, different dude. If therefore I do, then we will be able to run with them. Man, man.
Marvin Constant 1:22:50
We don’t have to run if they can only we probably gonna be in zone. We will have to run some zone precious. mixing some cover one hour run a lot of cover one with a spot. That’s five for Justin fields. Yeah, because again, pocket breaks down. He’s gonna take off. Who do we have to know for the athlete to spot him? You know, Dylan Moses?
Justin Riley 1:23:13
Yeah. I get to do it, for sure. But he had been playing to that Dylan Moses standard. So right? Is he going? He’s been hurt, or his Christian hair is gonna be that guy. He’s athletic guy. Okay, he can run with some folks.
Marvin Constant 1:23:28
I mean, most people when you run a couple one with your mic, and you will, it’s a two man tag off anyway. So if he goes to that side of the field, then boom, there it is. But it’s also predicated on who that number three receiver is. Because if the back is the number three receiver and he runs any type of route to the field, then the mike linebacker has to take him so it’s automatically gonna put the wheel in the rack or in the spot position on the quarterback vice versa. If he went into the flat, then the wheels got to take the Middle East Mike in the spot position. So it just depends on what they do. And I know that Ryan day is gonna know that that’s what they gonna try to do. He’s gonna create plays and matchup nightmare just for that purpose. All right,
Justin Riley 1:24:11
I’m gonna ask a couple more questions. The first one being, what does Alabama have to do to win this game? We’ll start you bro.
Unknown Speaker 1:24:20
Execute. I mean, I, it all comes down to execution. We just said it a while ago, it don’t matter what plays are called, whether it’s the wrong play or the right play. You You have to execute that play the way it’s supposed to be executed. Because, you know, a coach can put you in a right position. But if you ain’t, you know, fill in your gaps If you ain’t, you know, covering where you supposed to be. Like, I mean, you can have a breakdown somewhere. So I think it all just boils down to regardless of who’s calling plays. You know, the plays are gonna be called I think it just boils down to execution.
Marvin Constant 1:24:56
Are you gonna Blitz in third and six, third and eight.
Unknown Speaker 1:25:00
said it again.
Unknown Speaker 1:25:01
Are you gonna Blitz in 30?
Unknown Speaker 1:25:04
Am I gonna Blitz on third and eight?
Unknown Speaker 1:25:06
If you repeat would you Blitz on Thursday night?
Unknown Speaker 1:25:11
I will because I’m aggressive mind like i like i like sending sending a blitz like even you know I know it’s a video game but when I play like I Blitz to try to what
Marvin Constant 1:25:25
are you gonna? What coverage Are you gonna put behind it?
Unknown Speaker 1:25:29
I mean most of the time is most dangerous man Blitz now
Marvin Constant 1:25:33
with Justin fields running athletic ability. You can create some problems that man and third night you’re gonna open some lanes for that man And third, Nate. Got it? You got to get on it. You got to. But have we been getting a quarterback though?
Unknown Speaker 1:25:52
We haven’t. We haven’t been getting to the quarterback consistently
Marvin Constant 1:25:55
as that was my hope. Yeah. We bet off endzone on third. And that’s all i think i think
Unknown Speaker 1:26:01
though, if you you bring out a nickel package and you let some of them some of them are like Mallika St. Malecon or bliss or let some of them DBS you know, Blitz the edge or something like that. I mean, I think making him making him hurry making him rushes throws can result in in some peaks. But you know, I think you just got to send sometimes you got to send faster guys, you know, that can get around that age and get some pressure on him. But when it boils down to a man and their front, their front line, they don’t have to get pressure. They got they got to get pressure, whether you’re a man or whether you as own they got to get pressure.
Marvin Constant 1:26:39
And we all know if you don’t get pressure, what’s the next best thing running games up front? And even running games up front? We hadn’t been too successful with that. All I’m saying is don’t get out coached to the point. It’s detrimental to your team. That’s all I’m saying. Katie, what
Justin Riley 1:26:58
do you feel we need to do? I feel the same way.
Unknown Speaker 1:27:01
I agree. 100%. We just don’t have to execute man. There’s really not. It’s really not a rocket scientist. You just got to come up with a game plan and execute a game plan. Everybody’s just gonna have to be fine on all cylinders. This is one of those games you just got to play a great game and be like, What are you telling me man? You always got to win one player at a time when they play one play at a time and go right on to the next man. You do that? I’ll let them do that. I guess I’m gonna take care, sir.
Justin Riley 1:27:36
I one last question for both of you guys. What was your best moment at Alabama in your career? Start with you, bro.
Marvin Constant 1:27:43
And we talked about breakfast at Rama gems even.
Unknown Speaker 1:27:47
You know? I very rarely went to the gym. Like, how many times since I’ve been in Tuscaloosa even up to this? Hey, you’d like to
Marvin Constant 1:28:04
eat burgers? Yeah, I do that
Unknown Speaker 1:28:09
cheeseburger.
Unknown Speaker 1:28:12
Yeah, more places I can get a good cheeseburger from so I don’t initially think about Rama jam was when I think of cheeseburger.
Marvin Constant 1:28:20
I like to look at my pictures by the register.
Unknown Speaker 1:28:30
One time, man. Yeah,
Marvin Constant 1:28:33
well, I’ll be honest with you. I took classes, a lot of classes that was by by the stadium. So I would always go around McDonald’s for breakfast because my classes weren’t too far from them. Don’t just walk over and get breakfast. Yeah. Yeah, but I went to Brian hall to get breakfast making it to class on time it wouldn’t happen
Unknown Speaker 1:28:56
now but to go back to your question man answer your question. I would have to say you know I say a lot of times you know for the game was you know, it was my best game but my best overall like moment was just everything that I did and in the Southern Miss game.
Unknown Speaker 1:29:15
Yeah,
Unknown Speaker 1:29:16
just total yards wise man, I had, you know, kick return yards at, you know, receiving yards. It was just everything. Everything that I did in that game, I think I had had 279 yards total, you know, all purpose yours had
Marvin Constant 1:29:33
to go to a defensive coordinator.
Unknown Speaker 1:29:38
Now, but I had a you know, I had over 100 yards receiving that game. Just Just everything that I did in that game was just it was, you know, it was a moment. And there’s, there’s more. There’s plenty of other moms that I can name but just everything that I did in that game, and then leading up to the kitsch. You know, it was just The game was it was it was it was it was dead until that moment and then once we got once we you know got that momentum and came back out man we were bought we came back out bawling and I think that was one of my best moments
Marvin Constant 1:30:15
Can I borrow the SP for like a week I just want to take some pictures post them on the ground you know saying you know like looking cool me on
Unknown Speaker 1:30:25
my brother with my brother
Marvin Constant 1:30:27
man like my brother take all my stuff get my stuff hit my brother. You got all that you got all my stuff
Justin Riley 1:30:42
Katie What about you? I know you have a lot of great moments there but what was in your mind your best
Unknown Speaker 1:30:48
man it’s funny bro brought up those games because I will say the same go to game was a good game. Game right though just electrifying all by us or whatnot, but we’ve had to pinpoint any game all the games like photo said all on memorable, but I think my game will have to be submitted as well. My my. Yep. When Ray has a guy heard that Kentucky game the next week. They named me as a starter I think Yeah, that was the I think that was one of my Yeah, one of my best game one not the best game. I think I had like over 200 yards rushing in that game. He did what was downs, but that was my first start. And from their point I like yeah, it’s gonna it’s gonna get ugly and cause
Unknown Speaker 1:31:43
Yeah, no doubt. Yeah.
Unknown Speaker 1:31:47
Yeah, man. It was memorable though, man. I I won’t take that one game back. They all pretty much grew every player. Pretty much.
Unknown Speaker 1:31:58
I enjoyed my time.
Unknown Speaker 1:32:00
Yeah, me too. Me too.
Unknown Speaker 1:32:04
So we know you did.
Justin Riley 1:32:08
All right. We do have to go around the room and get predictions for this game. We’ll start with you pro who wins this game and give me a score.
Unknown Speaker 1:32:18
Well, of course we know who’s gonna win the game. Bama gonna win the game. Oh. I had to give a score. Man. I’m gonna do this. I’m gonna have to do this just for just for Marga man. Alabama. 35 to zero.
Unknown Speaker 1:32:37
I like it.
Unknown Speaker 1:32:38
35 to zero. goose egg for my man. Marga man. Hope you bet. Gonna. We’re gonna send Pete golden out on a high note man. Don’t be on his resume. So he got he going after this one anyway.
Unknown Speaker 1:32:52
Oh, my God.
Justin Riley 1:32:55
You got an MVP to go with that too.
Unknown Speaker 1:32:58
I’m gonna go with my my MVP. Gonna be a Mr. Jalen waddle cuz I feel like he’s gonna be in this game.
Justin Riley 1:33:07
He’s an MVP just for showing up in that game. Man. I
Unknown Speaker 1:33:10
think man. You know Matt Jones. man if he continues to play at the level that he plays that man i think is no doubt he probably don’t. He probably would get the day up.
Unknown Speaker 1:33:23
Katie,
Unknown Speaker 1:33:24
man, bam Of course. I think we don’t when I think it’s gonna be 38 to 21 I think it’ll be 3021 us.
Justin Riley 1:33:35
Do you had to pick an MVP? Who would you pick?
Unknown Speaker 1:33:38
I know VP gonna be mad. It’s gonna be mad like y’all come out. I see How
Unknown Speaker 1:33:44
bad was swaying everywhere. So I’m gonna give him an MVP. I Marvin,
Marvin Constant 1:33:50
I look I just got this cut right today. Just like Pico get cut. I’m gonna take Bama. 4548
Unknown Speaker 1:34:02
Pico give up that man.
Marvin Constant 1:34:05
Give up 45
Unknown Speaker 1:34:07
Hey. All right. MVP.
Unknown Speaker 1:34:11
MVP.
Unknown Speaker 1:34:11
Yes. Hi.
Unknown Speaker 1:34:14
I’ll take it
Marvin Constant 1:34:16
permitted to show me to catch 100 touchdown but we don’t need to repeat my God. If I could I sneak pro in there let him kiss him ball we
Unknown Speaker 1:34:26
don’t know.
Unknown Speaker 1:34:32
You’re gonna have to line me up behind the quarterback and let me let me get a few yards.
Unknown Speaker 1:34:37
Hey,
Unknown Speaker 1:34:41
