The Panthers are picking up the fifth-year options on the contracts of quarterback Sam Darnold.
Picking up Darnold’s option was always part of the plan for the Panthers when they acquired him in a trade with the Jets earlier this month.
“I’m not going to talk about other players; we brought Sam here for a reason,” Panthers head coach Matt Rhule said. “We’re excited to see what he can do. We’re excited to give him an opportunity.
And so the Panthers now have picked up the 5th-year option on DJ Moore, but have not done so yet on Sam Darnold….leaving open the possibility of drafting a QB tonight. https://t.co/cDNGdv5QfR
