As the College Football Playoff Orange Bowl game approaches between the Georgia Bulldogs and the Cincinnati Bearcats, Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart announced that Stetson Bennett will be the starting quarterback against the Wolverines over JT Daniels.
Bennett, the former walk-on and currently a senior, opened the season as the backup quarterback for the Bulldogs, but he saw action in Week 2 with former five-star recruit JT Daniels injured, and he threw for five touchdowns in the process. By early October, Bennett was again the starter, leading the Bulldogs to a 12-0 regular season and a No. 1 ranking entering the SEC championship game.
Sports Cast contributor Byron Jones believes Bennett is a better game manager, “Mr. Bennett is more like a typical game manager, with a certain frame but he does turn the ball over a lot you know.”
JT Daniels, the initial starting quarterback from the start of the season for Georgia, was a transfer from USC. Sports Cast recruitment analyst Tyler Turner, says even Daniels was graded high for a recruit, he didn’t pan out as experts expected, “I think he’s just been a pretty marginal quarterback at the college level I think he’s very overrated overrated because of his high school recruiting ranking.”
Will this be Bennett’s time to shine?
