Warriors’ Steph Curry says he’s ‘going to play’ in Game 4 despite unspecified injury
Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry is expected to play in Game 4 of the NBA Finals on Friday.
Curry’s status was up in the air after he suffered an injury late in the fourth quarter of Game 3 when Boston Celtics forward Al Horford rolled on Curry’s leg as the two dove for a loose ball.
Curry lay on the floor for a few minutes, yelling in pain, before getting up with a limp. He was still walking gingerly about an hour and a half after the game when he entered and exited the news conference room.
But on Thursday, Curry appeared to be walking just fine. The Warriors didn’t hold a team practice Thursday, instead using the day as a rest and recovery day. Only low-minute players got on-court work done.
“[I got] about 10½ hours of sleep, a couple dunks in the ice bucket and that’s about it for now,” Curry said about what treatment he had been doing over the previous 12 hours. “Then take advantage of today and tomorrow to get completely ready for the game. Get as much recovery and healing as possible and understand how important Game 4 is. I’m excited about the opportunity.”
Curry compares the injury he suffered in Game 3 to a less severe version of the foot sprain he suffered against the Celtics back in March, when Marcus Smart rolled on his leg in another loose-ball situation and he missed the final month of the regular season.
Hornets to interviews Mike D’Antoni & Kenny Atkinson
Charlotte Hornets owner Michael Jordan is expected to meet with two finalists for the franchise’s coaching job this week, including Mike D’Antoni, sources told ESPN.
Golden State assistant Kenny Atkinson is set to meet with Jordan on Tuesday, and D’Antoni’s visit is expected later in the week, sources said.
Atkinson and D’Antoni have already had two meetings with management, including with general manager Mitch Kupchak, in the Hornets’ process, sources said.
French prospect Rayan Rupert to play in New Zealand
France’s Rayan Rupert — one of the most promising young wing players in the world — is signing a deal to join the New Zealand Breakers of the Australian national basketball league next season, sources told ESPN.
Rupert, who is 6-foot-7 with a 7-3 wingspan, is projected to be the 21st pick in ESPN’s 2023 NBA Mock Draft. Another French forward, Ousmane Dieng, a projected first-round pick in the 2022 NBA draft, made the leap to the Breakers last season.
Rupert, who just turned 18, has drawn comparisons to Phoenix Suns forward Mikal Bridges because of the defensive versatility that comes with his wingspan, his ability to get into the passing lanes and the intensity with which he plays on defense.
LeBron James wants to own an NBA team in Las Vegas
Lebron James is ready to put his recently valued billion-dollar net worth to good use. The Lakers superstar revealed he’s looking to buy an NBA team – and already has the location set.
“I want to own a team, I want to buy a team, for sure,” James said in a preview clip from the latest episode of his talk show, “The Shop: Uninterrupted,” which is set to air Friday. “I want a team in Vegas.”
James, who currently acts as a part-owner of the Boston Red Sox, Pittsburgh Penguins and Liverpool Football Club, has repeatedly expressed his interest in owning an NBA franchise, stating last season “it will be sooner than later.” The four-time NBA MVP will be entering his 20th season this upcoming fall and would have to end his playing career before being eligible to purchase a team.
Rasheed Wallace to join Lakers as Assistant Coach
Wallace spent this past year coaching at the collegiate level under Penny Hardaway at the University of Memphis. His departure from the Memphis coaching staff to join the Lakers was something that Hardaway expected and hinted at Monday morning.
