The Carolina Panthers are expected to release quarterback Baker Mayfield, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Monday, per a source.
Mayfield will hit waivers once the roster move is finalized.
Acquired in a trade this offseason, Mayfield started the first five games of the season for the Panthers, throwing for 962 yards, four touchdowns and four interceptions, but was benched for P.J. Walker after winning just one game in that span.
