Real Madrid dealt Liverpool another heartbreaking loss after securing a 5-2 win Tuesday in the first leg of their Champions League round of 16 meeting.
Liverpool came out flying with two goals inside the opening 14 minutes. But hopes of avenging last season’s Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid were short-lived, as the 14-time European champions came roaring back after Vinicius Junior scored twice to bring the game level before halftime.
The visitors continued to dictate the match in the second half, with Eder Militao breaking the deadlock in the 48th minute before Karim Benzema scored a second-half brace to give Real Madrid a commanding lead heading into the second leg at the Santiago Bernabeu on March 15.
