The New Jersey Devils and forward Timo Meier agreed to an eight-year contract carrying an annual cap charge of $8.8 million, the club announced Wednesday.
Meier was due to hit restricted free agency on Saturday.
The contract is front-loaded, and he’ll earn the same amount for each of the final four years.
