The highly anticipated undisputed heavyweight title fight between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk, originally set for February 17, has been postponed due to Fury sustaining a severe cut during training. Fury expressed his disappointment and apologized to all involved parties, while Usyk’s camp aims to keep the original date, but Fury’s injury might require an extended recovery period.
Filip Hrgovic has shown interest in stepping in as a replacement for Fury on February 17. Fury and Usyk, both top heavyweight fighters, have been pursuing a fight for the undisputed title for over a year, with contracts signed for a bout in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, last September. Delays pushed the fight from December to February. Fury’s previous match in 2023 saw him narrowly defeat Francis Ngannou, while Usyk had a controversial victory against Daniel Dubois, who had knocked him down but had the punch ruled as a low blow.
