Jerry Jones: ‘We don’t need to’ extend Dak Prescott

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones doesn’t believe his team has to extend quarterback Dak Prescott this offseason.

“We don’t need to, but we can if everybody wants to solve it,” Jones said Friday at the NFL combine, according to Jon Machota of The Athletic. “If you can’t, what we have in place works. And so obviously, if you do it one way, then that gives you, you’ll be working through some of the other areas on the team in a different way.”

He added: “But you can’t really plan on that until you see where you are there. That’s what we’re doing.”

Prescott is entering the final season of a four-year, $160-million deal signed in 2021 that includes no-trade and tag clauses. He’ll become an unrestricted free agent in 2025 if the sides can’t agree on a new contract.
