Kerr backs Draymond: ‘He’s worth it’
Posted on April 19, 2024 by Santiago Leon
Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr continued to back Draymond Green despite the issues he brought on the team this season.

“He’s one of the most competitive, he’s one of the smartest players I’ve ever been around,” Kerr told reporters Thursday during his season-ending press conference, including The Athletic’s Anthony Slater. “And, yet, he makes these decisions that hurt the team, that aren’t smart. So how do you reconcile all that? It’s really difficult.

“The No. 1 thing I would say is, if we decided he wasn’t worth it, then we would have moved off of him years ago. But he’s worth it, and he’s worth it not only because of the banners that are hanging out there but because he really is a wonderful human being.”

Keegan Murray scored 32 points, De’Aaron Fox added 24 and the Kings stayed alive in the play-in tournament, eliminating the Warriors with a 118-94 victory on Tuesday night.

Sacramento advanced to play at New Orleans on Friday night with a chance to return to the playoffs as the eighth seed in the Western Conference after snapping an NBA-record 16-year playoff drought last season.

The loss kept Golden State out of the playoffs for the third time in the past five seasons, including two eliminations in the play-in tournament. The Warriors committed 16 turnovers, gave up 15 offensive rebounds and way too many open 3-pointers, looking nothing like the dynastic team that won four titles from 2015-22.

Klay Thompson missed all 10 shots from the field in what could have been his final game with the Warriors as he heads to unrestricted free agency this summer and a potential breakup of the championship trio of Thompson, Stephen Curry and Draymond Green.

Curry finished with 22 points but was hounded for much of the game by Keon Ellis.

Sacramento went 0-5 in the regular season against New Orleans and hasn’t gone winless in six or more games against the same opponent in a season since going 0-8 against the Los Angeles Lakers in the 1983-84 regular season and playoffs.

Brandon Aiyuk
Brandon Aiyuk’s agent has shot down yet another rumor involving his client and the 49ers’ star wide receiver.

Noah Strackbein of All Steelers, part of SI’s FanNation network, reported on Monday, citing a team source, that the Pittsburgh Steelers “would be surprised” if they didn’t eventually land Aiyuk in a trade.

The report then was discussed by Chat Sports’ Chase Senior in a video posted on X, formerly known as Twitter. But Ryan Williams, who represents Aiyuk, refuted the report on Thursday in a response to Senior’s video.

“Another ‘report’ that couldn’t be more incorrect,” Williams wrote on X. “Fictional ‘journalism’ should really stop.”

Pittsburgh Steelers essentially expect to trade for Aiyuk soon.
