Sophia Smith’s goal sends USA to Olympic gold medal game
The United States women’s national team defeated Germany, 1-0, in the semifinals on Tuesday to advance to the gold medal match at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Sophia Smith scored a goal in overtime, assisted by Mallory Swanson, to keep the Americans’ chances of winning their first gold since 2012 alive. They will face Brazil, which beat Spain 4-2, on Saturday in Paris.

Brazil stunned the world champions Spain 4-2 and will face the United States in the gold medal showdown in Paris on Saturday.
Gabi Portilho, Adriana and Kerolin struck in a thrilling semifinal at Stade de Marseille after an own-goal from Irene Paredes had put the two-time silver medalist in front.
Victory means Brazil great Marta has the chance to end her glittering international career by competing for gold after being suspended for the quarterfinals and semifinals.
The 38-year-old Marta has said her sixth Olympics will be her last major tournament with the national team.

France’s Jean-Philippe Mateta scored two goals, including one in extra time, while Michael Olise added another extra-time goal in the 108th minute to beat Egypt 3-1 on Monday night.
Spain advanced after Fermín López (66’) and Juanlu Sanchez (85′) started a second-half comeback in a 2-1 win against Morocco.
France and Spain will play for the gold medal Friday, both seeking their second Olympic gold, in an all-Euro final.
