Newly appointed US Men’s National Team (USMNT) coach Mauricio Pochettino has officially announced his coaching staff, bringing a blend of Argentine and Spanish expertise to the team. In an interesting twist, two of his assistants are from Argentina, one of them being his own son, while three others hail from Spain. Together, they bring a wealth of experience across different leagues and countries.
Here is the full lineup:
• Miguel “Miki” D’Agostino: A longtime collaborator with Pochettino, D’Agostino has been by his side since their playing days at Newell’s Old Boys in Argentina. He has an impressive coaching resume, having worked in Argentina, France, and the UAE. D’Agostino first teamed up with Pochettino as an assistant at Espanyol and has continued to work with him since.
• Jesús Pérez: A Spaniard who began his journey at Espanyol as an analyst, Pérez has risen through the ranks to become Pochettino’s trusted right-hand man. Their collaboration spans several years and various teams, including Tottenham Hotspur and Paris Saint-Germain.
• Antonio “Toni” Jiménez: A former goalkeeper with an illustrious playing career, Jiménez won a gold medal with Spain at the 1992 Olympics. He transitioned into coaching and has been a part of Pochettino’s staff since Espanyol, serving as the goalkeeper coach. His expertise will be crucial in shaping the next generation of USMNT shot-stoppers.
• Sebastiano Pochettino: The coach’s son, Sebastiano, joins the staff as a Sports Scientist. He has been working with his father since 2016, making a name for himself as one of the youngest sports scientists in the Premier League during their time at Tottenham. His role will be focused on enhancing the players’ physical performance.
• Sílvia Tuyà Viñas: A new addition to Pochettino’s staff, Tuyà Viñas is a highly qualified Strength and Conditioning Coach. She holds a PhD in sports science and previously worked with Levante’s women’s team. She has also lectured at the National Institute of Physical Education of Catalonia at the University of Barcelona, bringing a strong academic background to the squad’s conditioning programs.
This announcement comes alongside the departure of Swiss coach Vincent Cavin, who joined the USMNT last December as an assistant under former coach Gregg Berhalter. Cavin’s exit marks a transition in leadership as Pochettino shapes the team for upcoming international competitions.
With a dynamic and experienced coaching staff, Pochettino is well-positioned to bring new energy and success to the US Men’s National Team. The diverse backgrounds of his assistants reflect his holistic approach to building a competitive and well-rounded squad.
