Minnesota Timberwolves guard Donte DiVincenzo and New York Knicks assistant coach Rick Brunson had a brief but tense exchange after a preseason game, requiring separation. DiVincenzo, traded from the Knicks to the Timberwolves in a recent blockbuster deal, appeared to be speaking to Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau during the altercation. Earlier, DiVincenzo had yelled at someone on the Knicks’ bench during a free throw, but it’s unclear if the incidents were related. Postgame, DiVincenzo addressed the situation, clarifying he wasn’t thanking Thibodeau for trading him and that his comments were made in a competitive spirit. He had played 63 games for the Knicks last season before being traded and had a strong preseason performance with 15 points, seven assists, and three rebounds. The Timberwolves and Knicks will next meet on Dec. 19.
