Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice has been sentenced to five years probation and 30 days of jail time by a Dallas County judge, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
The sentence is related to Rice’s role in a multi-car crash last April. Shortly after the incident, Rice’s attorney confirmed that Rice was driving the Lamborghini that was involved in a hit-and-run in Dallas.
Per Schefter, the 30 days of jail time can be served at any point during Rice’s five years on probation; however, Rice received deferred adjudication, per Schefter, meaning that his case will be dismissed if he successfully completes probation.
The rulings open the NFL to discipline Rice directly. Rice is expected to receive a multi-game suspension that, per Schefter, the wide receiver is expected to serve this season. The Washington Post, however, reported that any decision to suspend is “not close to final” at this point.
