Kansas State athletic director Gene Taylor took exception to Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby being granted an injunction to play in 2026.
“It’s f—–g bullshit,” Taylor told Ross Dellenger of Yahoo Sports on Monday.
Sorsby was initially deemed ineligible to play next season after acknowledging that he gambled on sports, including his own team, during his freshman year at Indiana. The 22-year-old recently completed an inpatient gambling addiction treatment program after taking a leave of absence from Texas Tech in April.
“I know the kid has a problem,” Taylor added. “Well, get well and focus on your problem. It is absolutely devastating for him to be able to play when every other sport, no matter the level, deems an athlete ineligible or they are punished severely for betting on their team.”
In anticipation of Sorsby’s injunction potentially being granted, the topic of choosing not to play Texas Tech came up at a recent Big 12 administrative meeting, with Taylor saying that “serious conversation” took place about the possibility.
“We aren’t scheduled to play them this year, but it’s something we have to look at from a college football perspective,” he said. “This is greater than the Big 12.”
