Morocco suffered a major blow just 20 minutes into its World Cup round of 16 match against Canada, as star forward Ismael Saibari had to be removed with an injury.
The 25-year-old went down clutching his hamstring and had to be replaced by Soufiane Rahimi in the 22nd minute of the match in Houston.
Saibari is Morocco’s top scorer at the World Cup, tallying three goals in the team’s first four matches.
Should Morocco advance, it would face either France or Paraguay in the quarterfinal. Saibari would have to be considered a major doubt for that match as well, which is set for Thursday, July 9.
After starring at PSV for several seasons, Saibari recently signed with German power Bayern Munich.
