Will Aurélien Tchouaméni play today for France vs. Morocco?

Posted on July 9, 2026July 9, 2026 by Santiago Leon

As of matchday, Aurélien Tchouaméni has not been officially confirmed in France’s starting lineup for the FIFA World Cup 2026 quarterfinal against Morocco in Boston.

The 25-year-old midfielder sat out France’s 1-0 Round of 16 win over Paraguay after suffering a thigh injury. Since then, France head coach Didier Deschamps has provided an encouraging update on his recovery, indicating that Tchouaméni has been progressing well and could be available for selection.

However, Deschamps has stopped short of confirming whether the midfielder will start or begin the match on the bench.

Why did Tchouaméni miss France’s last match?

Tchouaméni was unavailable for France’s knockout clash with Paraguay after sustaining a thigh injury during the tournament. His absence forced Deschamps to adjust his midfield, with Manu Koné stepping into the lineup.

Koné impressed during France’s victory, giving the coaching staff another strong option should Tchouaméni not be fully fit for the quarterfinal.

Who could replace Tchouaméni?

If Tchouaméni is unable to start against Morocco, Manu Koné is expected to retain his place in midfield.

France also has experienced options such as Adrien Rabiot and Eduardo Camavinga, allowing Deschamps flexibility in the center of the pitch.

What Tchouaméni brings to France

When healthy, Tchouaméni is one of France’s most important midfielders. His ability to break up opposition attacks, recover possession, and distribute the ball makes him a key figure in Deschamps’ tactical setup.

His return would provide France with additional defensive stability against a Morocco side that has impressed throughout the tournament with its pace and counterattacking ability.

France vs. Morocco kickoff

France takes on Morocco in the 2026 FIFA World Cup quarterfinal on Thursday, July 9, at Boston Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts. The winner will advance to the semifinals and move one step closer to lifting the World Cup trophy.

Is Aurélien Tchouaméni expected to play?

At this stage, Tchouaméni remains a game-time decision. While his recovery has been encouraging, France has not officially confirmed whether he will start against Morocco. Fans should monitor the official starting lineups released approximately one hour before kickoff for the final decision.
