Aaron Judge Injury: Why the Yankees Star Is Not Playing in the 2026 MLB All-Star Game

Posted on July 13, 2026July 13, 2026 by Santiago Leon

Aaron Judge will not take the field in the 2026 MLB All-Star Game, despite earning a starting spot in the American League lineup. The New York Yankees slugger has withdrawn from the Midsummer Classic due to a rib injury, joining a growing list of star players who will miss the showcase event.

The 2026 MLB All-Star Game takes place on Tuesday, July 14, at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, with first pitch scheduled for 8:00 p.m. ET.

Why Is Aaron Judge Not Playing in the 2026 MLB All-Star Game?

Judge was voted in by fans as one of the American League’s starting outfielders after another outstanding first half of the season. However, the Yankees elected to keep their captain out of the All-Star festivities as he continues to recover from a rib injury.

The decision is designed to ensure Judge is healthy for the second half of the regular season, with the Yankees focused on their postseason aspirations.

Aaron Judge’s 2026 All-Star Selection

Even though he won’t participate, Judge’s selection is another milestone in his career. He remained one of baseball’s premier hitters during the first half of the 2026 season, earning enough fan support to secure a starting spot before his injury forced him to withdraw.

His absence leaves one of the game’s biggest stars out of baseball’s annual showcase.

Other MLB Stars Missing the 2026 All-Star Game

Judge is not the only marquee player unavailable for this year’s event. Several high-profile stars will also sit out, including:

  • Shohei Ohtani (left knee irritation)
  • Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
  • Byron Buxton

Their absences have opened roster spots for replacement players while allowing injured stars additional recovery time before the second half begins.

Yankees Representatives at the 2026 MLB All-Star Game

Although Judge will not play, the New York Yankees will still have multiple representatives in Philadelphia.

The Yankees’ All-Stars include:

  • Cody Bellinger
  • Ben Rice
  • Cam Schlittler (selected but not expected to pitch as the club manages his workload)

The trio will represent New York during the American League’s attempt to capture another All-Star Game victory.

When Is the 2026 MLB All-Star Game?

The 2026 MLB All-Star Game is scheduled for:

  • Date: Tuesday, July 14, 2026
  • Location: Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia
  • First Pitch: 8:00 p.m. ET

Fans can expect baseball’s biggest stars to compete in one of the sport’s premier annual events, even without several injured superstars.

Final Thoughts

Aaron Judge’s absence is a significant loss for the 2026 MLB All-Star Game, but prioritizing his health gives the Yankees their best chance for a deep playoff run. While fans won’t get to see one of baseball’s biggest stars in Philadelphia, the American League roster remains loaded with elite talent ready to put on a show during the Midsummer Classic.
