New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman has reached a new deal with the team to continue in the post he’s held since 1998.
“We’re locked and loaded,” said Cashman, the longest-serving general manager in franchise history, of the new deal, adding that both sides were just ironing out the final details.
The Yankees have posted a winning record in each of the 59-year-old Cashman’s 29 seasons as general manager but haven’t won a World Series since 2009, when they defeated the Philadelphia Phillies.
In all, the Yankees have won four World Series championships and 15 American League East titles under Cashman’s watch. However, the Yankees’ streak of 13 straight playoff appearances without a World Series title is tied for the fourth-longest streak in MLB postseason history.
