Packers Officiating Complaints: Why Green Bay Is Frustrated After Lions Loss

Posted on October 26, 2026October 26, 2026 by Santiago Leon

The Green Bay Packers’ officiating complaints center on disputed penalties and perceived inconsistency during their 20–17 loss to the Detroit Lions on October 25, 2026. Players questioned calls that extended Detroit possessions, erased a turnover and affected Green Bay’s offense.

Here are the decisions behind the controversy—and why the complaints require separating disputed judgments from evidence of unfair treatment.

Which Calls Did the Packers Dispute?

Devonte Wyatt’s Personal Foul

One flashpoint involved Devonte Wyatt tackling Amon-Ra St. Brown after the receiver returned to his feet. Packers players said they did not hear a whistle signaling the play had ended.

Referee Alex Moore said officials had ruled the play over, while acknowledging he could not confirm hearing a whistle. The disagreement highlights the difficulty players face when a play’s status appears unclear.

Roughing-the-Passer Penalties

Green Bay also questioned penalties involving Brenton Cox Jr. and Karl Brooks. Cox said he was blocked into Lions quarterback Jared Goff. Brooks’ penalty came during Detroit’s eventual game-winning possession.

Pass Interference and Intentional Grounding

A defensive pass interference call against Brandon Cisse wiped out an interception. Green Bay also questioned a no-call on a deep throw to Bo Melton.

On offense, Jordan Love received an intentional grounding penalty. Moore explained that Love remained inside the tackle box and the pass did not reach the line of scrimmage. These incidents are detailed in the Packers’ postgame report.

Why Consistency Is the Central Issue

The Packers’ argument is about how officials apply standards across comparable plays. Fans assessing that argument should consider the contact, timing and applicable rule on each snap. A penalty disparity alone cannot establish that officials treated a team unfairly.

Likewise, a referee’s explanation describes the basis for a ruling; evaluating whether that ruling was correct requires examining the play itself.

Did Officiating Cost Green Bay the Game?

Disputed calls can influence a close contest, but their impact does not establish what the final score would have been without them. Green Bay’s own coverage also highlighted missed scoring opportunities in its assessment of the loss.

The strongest version of the Packers’ complaint is a request for clear, consistently applied rules. Whether each contested decision met that standard deserves individual scrutiny, rather than a blanket conclusion that officiating determined the outcome.
