NBA suspending Morant 25 games
Memphis Grizzlies All-Star Ja Morant will be suspended 25 games after he displayed a gun on social media in May, sources told The Athletic’s Shams Charania on Friday.
The incident was the second time Morant has brandished a weapon live on Instagram. He was suspended for eight games by the league in March after broadcasting himself holding a gun in a Denver club.
The Grizzlies have already suspended Morant indefinitely from all team activities for the May incident.
Michael Jordan finalizing sale of Hornets
All-time NBA legend Michael Jordan is finalizing a sale of the Charlotte Hornets to a group led by Gabe Plotkin and Rick Schnall, sources told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
The five-time MVP as a player was the majority owner of his home state’s franchise for 13 years.
Warriors Tap Mike Dunleavy Jr. as General Manager
Golden State Warriors executive Mike Dunleavy Jr. has agreed to a deal to become the franchise’s new general manager, sources told ESPN on Friday.
Dunleavy is elevating from vice president of basketball operations and will replace former president and GM Bob Myers, who recently stepped down after 11 seasons and four championships.
Dunleavy’s representatives at Excel Sports Management finalized talks on a new long-term deal with owner Joe Lacob on Thursday, sources said. A formal announcement is planned for Friday morning with a news conference set for Monday.
USA beats Mexico 3-0; Will Face Canada in Nations League Final
Christian Pulisic scored twice as the United States beat Mexico 3-0 on Thursday to set up a CONCACAF Nations League final showdown with Canada after a stormy battle that saw both sides finish with nine men.
Chelsea winger Pulisic opened the scoring in the 37th minute and then drove in a second a minute after the interval, slotting home a low cross from Tim Weah, who had been sent clear down the right by a fine long pass from Weston McKennie.
